Carl Jung Psyche Analysis

This was a fascinating video that touched on an array of topics related to dreams and the psyche. One of the things that I noted while watching the video was that Carl Jung wrote on the beginnings of Zen in Buddhism and studied Native American culture in his work. It was also interesting the thoughts that Jung had about the psyche. In the beginning of the video Jung discussed that the psyche is the “great danger”. The video went on to discuss the psychology of war, architecture, alcohol and drug addiction, death, and movies. The video stated that movies were an effective way to portray archetypes. John Beebe, a Jungian psychologist, tackles movies and movie stars in the video. He states that archetypes in movies are “a ticket of admission to
who was an “addicted, uncured alcoholic”. The psychotherapy for alcoholism and addiction was for the patients to find meaning. Jung’s explanation, or reason for the addiction was that the patients were seeking the spirit. The video goes on to discuss the nature in which human wants to find ecstasy and how human cultures look to be near their god, or gods. The video stated that the gods had turned into symptoms. This video also talked about the relationship between men and women. The terms that I learned about in the video was animist and anima. The animist is inside the woman and it is always an attack but also is attractive to the woman. The anima is the woman that the man tried to produce on the outside, his ideal woman. Jung was interested in the pain and delight of human relationships. Architecture also was interesting and associated with the psyche of a particular place. The way the building are built can give way to certain feelings. The video said that the psyche has gone and been replaced by the desire for wealth and money. “The gods have gone”. It was interesting the way that the movie explained Marilyn Monroe’s demise. John Beebe said that Marilyn may have felt that she was “swallowed by her
