Carpe Diem and Cold October Night
ALIS IN ISTANBUL
Once upon a time, Gloria had a dream on a cold october night. She was on the aeroplane of trip and was looking out of the window. What she was looking was the city of contrasts, where Europe met Asia, east met West, old met new and her fear met her courage. Istanbul
The exquisite city affected her in many aspects. Both panaromic view of city and bosphorous bridge where Europian side met Anatolian side have inspired her. She wanted to see all the ins and outs of Istanbul. But she knew this was not possible in one day. At least there were lots of historical olaces that she saw from the sky: Palaces, manors and ancient towers. All of them have given her feeling of peace. In fact, she thought Istanbul was a huge city that scared her. But; where she could find places for herself to realize her dreams is this city. Some of her dreams were riding motorcycle and taking photos. Neither of them was dispensable for her.
After aeroplane trip, Gloria went to the coast for smoking and sat on the bank; started reading book as she imagined. These hours were unique and worthful hours. She was focused on book that she didn’t notice a man near her. When she looked that man, he sait: “Sorry madam, i took your photos. Umm anyway, I’m Alis, what about you?” Gloria was surprised but she fell in love at first sight. Then she said “I’m Gloria. Why did you take my photos?” Alis said that he was a photographer. And Gloria couldn’t say anything. Neither Gloria nor Alis turned eyes away. Every emotion she felt was sincere. They glanced each other for a while and were smiling. Either of them must have been broke the silence. Because it was the time to go for Gloria. But Alis broke the silence with different way: He kissed Gloria.
AND… Gloria woke up. Then she realized that all of the dreams were not real. Neither Istanbul nor Alis was not real. In fact, she was in Eskisehir.

Ari’s description of the four sections of the city interlace demographic information with personal affect. Sex, drugs and alcohol will ease the strain on Ari’s groin, that will take away the burning compulsion and terror of his desire. But here at the novel's space of endpoint and stasis he does not identify any independent capacity for pleasure. Ari exposes the under-belly of the city by charting trajectories and spaces of the city's excess: forbidden desires, sexual transgression, waste and decay. If the map of the city is the governance of culture and language, this dynamic tour offers the possibility of an individual activity and expression.…

I gaze out the droplet covered window at the bright line across the glistening blue water. All the stars are hiding timid behind the livid clouds. The moon peeks out, illuminating the river and casting an alluring reflection. The car makes loud ghastly sounds while speeding over the bridge. I look across to the bright jagged line, wishing that I could be over there. It represented freedom, independence, happiness; everything I didn’t have since we moved to this shabby town. Where was this bright line that brought be bliss? Why, it was New York City.…
