Case Study: Adding Vendor's To Caliber And Newport
Sandy,
The areas of discussion from the meeting on 9/8.

Adding vendor’s to Caliber & Newport. This would reduce the processing time for both pictures & the PO department. I provided Victor a spreadsheet with non-Newport vendors from May thru July adding vendors with over a average volume of 20 repairs per vendor would account for 2463 repairs for the 3 month period or based on a 21 day work days that would equal 39 repairs that could be approved on Newport, with the additional volume we could program auto pricing of mechanical repairs.

Staffing of PO Department until 2200 or 2400 M thru F.
I am not opposed to staffing until 2200 or 2400 but in my opinion the only way I can accomplish that right now would be having a person that could do callback, price & supok which would be Laura Cardwell. The information I provided to Gay & JC indicated that the operation group is processing 6.83 PO’s through the AS400 from 19:00 to 7:59 the next day doing the weekdays, which in my opinion is not a great deal of volume to warrant staff to midnight. I don’t have the phone data for the PO path currently. I will provide the phone path info by Friday.

I will follow-up with her later this week.

TRAC Report Missy indicated that the format came from TRAC and it should be a daily report. I will follow-up with Gay & Amanda.

I would like to offer employment to Erica Fahey & Laura Cardwell. On the other temps Ashley Begley is a keeper, Adam & Angie ? and Bernice would stay as a temp but is valuable.

I do appreciate your time yesterday and the confidence that you & Rod has shown in

Before: The consulting firm targeted the OEM for this proposal because it identified the following issues in the OEM’s MRO purchasing system: large supply base with 1,800 vendors, excessive number of employees at different levels: purchasing group, store, plant and HR, and unofficial communications between vendors and OEM plant managers. The most inefficient and time consuming factor was exchanging all the information and data in the form of hard copy documents and EDIs.…

    5. Staff roles and responsibilities need to be modified to minimize the number of employees communicating and inputting essential information. We recommend keeping two Call Center Operators but having 12-hour shifts. This will ensure continuity of information flow and staff accountability. With the new PaaS system a Data Clerk is not required as call center operators and drivers enter information in real-time. Reallocation of resource to hire a Quality Personnel to ensure standards and compliance with information system and operational business process are met would be…

There is a long ongoing battle that is being waged between unions and business since the rise of large corporations. Unions were created to fight higher official corruption and to protect workers from unfavorable conditions and unfair treatment by top-level officials, companies take extreme measures to prevent the creation of unions within their organizations. There are positive and negative effects for both nonunion and unionized companies. Preventing workers from unionizing is a difficult task for organizations especially as they expand into the global arena. More is demanded from employees usually with little added benefits (thus the reason for unionization). A notable successful company is Trader Joe’s, who’s business strategy and cultural…

    Field Auditor Analysis

That's a little more challenging. I have conducted the first round of interviews and I'm going to interview one candidate one more time; however, may decided not to hire him. Another I like; however, she has no finance or accounting background. I just wish I could combine the two candidates and I would have one good one. I get another batch of applicants first week of November. I hope it is a better batch. The title of the positions hurts Field Auditor 2 (Senior Auditor) and Field Auditor 3 (Internal Auditor). That's just the classification they can be called anything; however, it hurts because it's what's indicated on the job description. Additionally, they posted the minimum salary of $33K & 30K which I'm going to pay a lot more than that which of course hurts things. I'm working with HR to remove the minimum salary, move to mid range, or something for the next posting. I'm sure that will…

Glenn Northcott is a purchasing planner in Rondot Automotive. Their Jackson, Mississippi plant manufactures an average of 7million small motors which they distribute to their OEM customers. Their purchasing organization which has a hybrid structure is comprised of two groups—strategic purchasing (dotted-line reporting to purchasing manager) and plant purchasing department (straight-line reporting to purchasing manager). Currently, they are being pressured to cut down their plant costs and reduce their prices. Aside from these, they are also facing employment and global competition issues. Three months ago, an opportunity to outsource their painting operations to Greven was presented to Glenn. As part of the evaluation process, tests were administered and colleagues were consulted. The tests showed that 5 steel housings which undergo hot-bond process can be converted to e-coating and only one family cannot be converted due to the cold-bond adhesion it requires. John Underwood from manufacturing engineering encouraged the prospect, explaining that their wet-paint system has to be stopped or upgraded soon while Betty McKinley from production planning called out that 2 weeks’ worth of inventory has to be added and an additional $0.03 for transportation and packaging costs will be incurred. Now, Glenn has to discuss his suggestion to Terry Gibson (Purchasing Manager) and Dick Taylor (Plant Manager).…

Michael Stefanic, director of cost management at Owens & Minor (O&M), a medical and surgical supplies distributor and Daniel Borunda, material systems manager at Virginia Mason (VM) Medical Center came together to try to battle healthcare costs and improve the healthcare supply chain. Virginia Mason, a private non-profit healthcare organization based out of Seattle, offered both primary and specialized care and developed the Virginia Mason Production System (VMPS). The VMPS was a modified version of the Toyota Production System that helped VM work towards its goal of being a quality leader, emphasized line-level employee teamwork, and fought for a zero defect rate. The components of VMPS included value-stream mapping (flowcharting), improvement workshops that sought to eliminate waste and improve efficiency, and the “everyday lean idea” used by VM employees in an attempt to reduce waste and add value. They sought to implement their “alpha vendor” idea where a few key vendors acted as partners in the supply chain and provided both goods and services at the lowest cost.…
