In 2012, due to the doping scandal, the formal cyclist was banned for life. Armstrong resigned as chairman of the Livestrong foundation in October 2012 and from the foundation’s board of directors in November 2012. Later in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Armstrong admitted to doping. The term doping in competitive sports, refers to the use of banned athletic performance-enhancing drugs by athletic competitors, where the term doping is generally used by organizations that regulate sporting competitions. The use of drugs to enhance performance is considered unethical by most international sports organizations, including the International Olympic Committee. Not only did the foundation loose a board of director, but because of this scandal the foundation changed its name to Livestrong Foundation. The company was effected by this scandal, which led the company having to explain its foundation’s key promise. As another result Nike announced that it would cut ties with the foundation after a nine-year relationship.
