Over the past four decades, spending on healthcare in the United States grew more rapidly than the economy (Baker, Birnbaum, Geppert, Mishol, Moyneur, 2008, p. 541). Healthcare has nearly tripled its share of national income during this time (p. 543). All aspects of the nation's health system have been affected by this ongoing spending growth. Strategically marketing the development of products and services during this intense competition and uncertainty is vital for any healthcare organization to stay profitable and to ensure continued growth.…
One of the biggest hesitations would have to be cost to build an implement such a system. The technique depends on an organization having "clean" data to analyze, which requires data being scrubbed and moved to data warehouses. Many payers lack the money and manpower to build and maintain these warehouses. (Kongstvedt, P., Capagemini). In addition, internal politics and the numerous constituencies within a managed care organization can make it difficult to focus data mining efforts, says Scott Kozicki.…
I chose to develop a plan for a pediatric cardiology clinic in our local area, the need for the clinic is very great due to the fact that the old cardiology clinic has closed down and there are no other pediatric cardiology clinics within at least a two hour drive from here. This clinic is an outpatient clinic that will be open from 8am to 5pm and closed on the weekends, with an emergency line for patients needing to speak to the cardiologist on call during the week or weekend.…
St. Jude Hospital has been able to enjoy a number of strengths that has enabled it to serve its patients in the desired manner. For one, the hospital enjoys a strong brand image. It is known for providing the best pediatric services. Families trust the services provided by the hospital hence willing to work with it to ensure it achieves its mission on the market. For example, the community is willing to support it anyway it can to ensure that it achieves its goals and objectives. Essentially, this is an organization that needs the support of the community to execute its roles and duties in the desired manner (Komiske, 2011).…
In order for Middlefield to strive and serve our patients with quality care and motivate our staff to stay employed with us long-term, we must change our operational strategy. First and foremost, we must invest in our employees. We have to offer our employees incentives and motivate them to stay and grow within our organization. Next, we must improve our community relations and form an alliance with Essex University to ensure the pipeline of new recruits continues to come through our doors for careers in nursing and other healthcare fields. And last but not least, we need to develop a triad of care, provide our patients with the best possible care at an affordable price.…
HeartCare Midwest's affiliations with major medical centers in the area like Saint Francis, Methodist, Proctor and Pekin make the new cardiology practice strategically positioned for growth in the medical industry. HeartCare employs some of the most highly educated and experienced cardiac nurses in the area, allowing the practice to be licensed and certified for specialized techniques usually only available from medical facilities in large metropolitan areas. This analysis will include an extensive evaluation of HeartCare Midwest's goals and objectives before and after the merger. In addition, structure and strategy, its organizational system, and HeartCare's effectiveness after the merger will be examined in detail. Additionally, I will make recommendations on how HeartCare Midwest could improve their organization.…
In the healthcare business as in any business decisions will impact how you do business in a significant way. Moreover, one of the more difficult decisions is what I am going to do within the business and more importantly, what am I not going to do. This post will discuss three business principles that I feel create patient-centered care delivered with quality and safety.…

The nurse practitioners and physician assistants at the clinic provide services for both adults and children who are 18 months and older. The clinic is a common family practice that treats patients of all ages, incomes, physical abilities, races, and ethnicities. There are many considerations taken when individuals decide to choose a family physician. Of those considerations, people tend to look for physicians who are well educated, informed, skilled and who will listen carefully to their health concerns. Patients tend to choose a doctor whose nearby their homes and whose hours are convenient with their schedule. Having short wait times when scheduling appointments and sitting in the waiting rooms waiting to be seen is also put into perspective. Another thing patients look for is clinics who have friendly and helpful employees, and also one that will accept their health insurance provider.…
To guarantee that its members receive appropriate, high level quality care in a cost-effective manner, each managed care organization (MCO) tailors its networks according to the characteristics of the providers, consumers, and competitors in a specific market. Other considerations for creating the network are the managed care organization's own goals for quality, accessibility, cost savings, and member satisfaction. Strategic planning for networks is a continuing process. In addition to an initial evaluation of its markets and goals, the managed care organization must periodically reevaluate its target markets and objectives. After reviewing the markets, then the organization must modify its network strategies accordingly to remain competitive in the rapidly changing healthcare industry. Coventry Health Care, Inc and its affiliated companies recognize the importance of developing and managing an adequate network of qualified providers to serve the need of customers and enrolled members (Coventry Health Care Intranet, Creasy and Spath, http://cvtynet/ ). "A central goal of managed care is containing the costs of delivering care, but the wide variety of organizations typically lumped together under the umbrella of managed care pursue this goal using combination of numerous strategies that vary from market to market and from organization to organization" (Baker , 2000, p.2).…

The Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN) has been instrumental in advocating for high quality, culturally sensitive, and comprehensive care for children and families. The healthcare needs of pediatric patients present unique challenges due to different developmental stages, limited communication skills, and differences in epidemiology and approaches to treatment as compared to adults. Nurse staffing is a focus of major concern because of the impact of staffing patterns on patient safety and quality of care. The advent of managed care, shortened hospital stays, and public reporting of quality measures demand that healthcare organizations objectively define and assess the quality of care delivered to children and families. Registered Nurses are the primary caregivers within the healthcare setting and are the essential link in assisting patients and families with navigating and humanizing a highly technical and impersonal healthcare system. An organization’s commitment to high quality pediatric care is dependent upon appropriate staffing levels with adequately prepared nurses and the implementation of collaborative, evidence-based practice (Schwalenstocker, Bisarya, Lau, & Adebimpe, 2007). In 2007, members of the Public Policy Committee developed the Safe Staffing Position Statement. This document outlined recommendations for safe and effective nursing care for children and their families. The position statement was recently updated and is intended to serve as the framework to assist organizations providing care to children in the implementation of evidenced based staffing plans to promote high-quality care. It is imperative that schools of nursing, healthcare institutions and pediatric nurses utilize this document as a resource to ensure that appropriate education, training, resources and effective staffing plans are provided to ensure…
Medicine has changed in the past years in many ways. With the change and inventions of new cures, technology, and less invasive procedures, medicine has become a whole different world. Though there has been many enhancements that increase the productivity and treatment outcomes in medicine, the delivery method and care has changed along with it, and not for always for the best. Hospitals are what people find security and safety from all illness and diseases they have come across, but with the change of the economy and budget cuts, the first thing to cut is patient care and service. When people think of hospitals they think of long lines, waiting for hours for a simple procedure or question, medications that aren’t helpful and no care or relationship with the doctor. Patients get less time with physicians and more time with physician assistants and nurses. Many hospitals and clinics have made it known at the first meeting that after the initial appointment, the remainder of appointments will be either with the nurse practitioner or physician assistant. With less care and relationship from the physician, patients start to wonder why pay high dollar for less service, and that’s where the issue arises.…
In today’s consumer market, people are not only looking for the best price for what want, but also the best quality for his or her dollar; health care is no different. The consumer is more educated and particular than ever when determining where they would entrust their health care needs. Word-of-mouth is no longer enough, so people are turning to research firms to help them make their final decision in finding quality care. Consumers are also looking for as many perks and additional services they can receive. Why go to a traditional hospital that only treats the immediate problem then sends a patient back home without aftercare information and support? Specialty, additional, and non-traditional services provided can set a facility apart from others, and provide a higher standard of quality care in specified areas that may appeal to a patients’ need.…
