Purdy vs. Steinberg
In the article Matt Purdy, came to the attack of Leigh Steinberg’s way of thinking as it pertains to Sports Agents. Steinberg who currently is a sport agent, talks about the good and the positive of the job because he is trying to tell people to follow their dreams as it comes to the profession. He has been through the ups and downs and found the profession thrilling and exciting as he has been in there for several years. About 30 years of experience of managing and mentoring athletes. He also believes that the most common misconception that being able to articulate is the most important skill that sport agent needs but in his opinion is that listening is the most important
skill. This is because he believes that the most important part was being a mentor to the athletes, to being essentially part of their family and be someone they find they can trust so that way, you build a bond with them on an emotional level. That’s how you stay employed and that’s how you build a reputation and get more agents. Essentially become more successful, that’s how you need up celebrating with the athletes. Personally I agree with
Steinberg. If you have the passion for the profession and know how to deal with people such as athletes, then you should pursue what you want to do. For someone who is interested in being a sport agent, you can build trust with your athlete clients from day one stating that you only want what’s best for them and their families while trying to do the same for your family. That way an understanding and a layer of trust and responsibility is built. Then you can brief them on how
