Case Study Of Reuben Nsemoh's Concussions In Sports
Reuben Nsemoh suffered a concussion in a soccer game, the Atlanta teen's worried about why it's so hard for him to concentrate. He's worried whether he'll ever get to play his favorite sport. But the biggest stumper of all: how is it that he's suddenly speaking fluent Spanish? Nsemoh, a 16-year-old high school sophomore, ended up in the coma last month after another player kicked him in the head during a game. When he woke up, he did something he'd never done before: speak Spanish like a native. His parents said he could already speak some Spanish, but he was never fluent in it until his concussion. Slowly, his English is coming back, and he's starting to lose his Spanish fluency. He now recalls that his friends would also speak Spanish to him with a mixture of English in the sentences so he would start to learn what certain words mean. …show more content…
His brother inspired Rueben to speak Spanish so he was also learning Spanish at the time of his concussion had occurred. It is still not decided if he will be able to play soccer again but as he told his coach. “Coach, it’s my passion. It’s the one thing I want to do for my career,” Nsemoh explained. His coach Bruno Kalonji said that Nsemoh’s concussion was by far the worst he has ever seen. But one thing is for sure, that if Reuben Nsemoh does come back to play soccer he will definitely have to wear a helmet. Doctors recommend that even if a player has 2 or three concussion they should be wearing a helmet. A concussion could even happen during practice so it will be mandatory for a player to wear a helmet at all times while

Concussions cause the dangerous disease CTE that has already claimed the lives of many athletes in the NFL and in other sports. We are doing research on CTE but a lot more needs to be done. If the NFL is going to be safer they need to relinquish all of their information and research on player brain injuries. Some good things are being done to rule changes to make the game safer, but it is still not enough. There is a fine line however between changing rules and changing the game, which the NFL will have to navigate carefully. One of the better answers to these brain injuries is to improve the helmet protecting the head. Many developers have made ingenious new ideas to combat the concussion epidemic in football. It is up to the NFL to adopt the new innovations to the football helmet to drastically improve player safety. A person’s brain is the most important part of the body. It just makes sense to want to protect it as much as possible. As the public becomes more aware of the dangers football has on a player’s brain people may reconsider playing football. If the NFL is going to have a future, they must make their game safer. If people see less players effected by concussions on TV public perception of football will improve. We all know the classic NFL(National Football League). It is certainly fun to watch, but how to the players feel when they play? Football concussions are a big deal when it comes to mental and physical stability. NFL players may be able to sustain through concussions and pain (even though it is a bad thing to ignore), but teenagers, on the other hand, shouldn’t try to fight the pain. High schools should not be able to run football teams knowing the dangers of the sport. Teenagers are more susceptible to get life-threatening brain damage from a concussion. Not only can football cause concussions, it can cause pain or permanent damage in other places of the human body.…

The movie concussion was the first time of the correlation between concussions and football. As I read Nationwide Children’s article, “Concussion in sports”, allowed me to increase my knowledge. Throughout the article, the author categorized what is a concussion and how it affects players. During reading, I found that concussions are a serious issue in sports, because it can cause severe brain damage to an athlete. This is concerning because the brains is one of the most important parts of a person’s body and if effected it could change a person life forever. Furthermore, I found it upsetting that the NFL does not make the risk of playing football known. Although, I understand the NFL provides minorities with opportunities to become successful.…

A concussion is a serious neurological injury cause by a blunt force to the head. A concussion can cause memory loss, loss of coordination, and can lead to CTE, or chronic traumatic encephalopathy which causes several painful, and debilitating side effects, and will ultimately lead to and early death, when left untreated by a professional doctor. There is no certain recovery length, but it requires lots of rest, and restrictions on activity, there may also be a need to immobilize the head to prevent more trauma to the brain. As concussion are so common in almost all sports, most people don’t give them a second thought to intense recovery, but that could be a fatal mistake. Without proper recovery, the soccer player could end up like Jeff Astle, a famous American player who, in 2002, who died suddenly at the age of 59. This article provided me insight on how a once concussed athlete should be evaluated when in the process of returning back to play. I have seen multiple friends of mine tell my former coach that they no longer have these concussion-related symptoms, and my coach would immediately put them back onto the soccer field. One of my friends actually got another concussion the day of returning from a previous concussion. I believe that some coaches are so concerned about winning that they will find any way to put the once or still concussed player back onto the field, especially if that particular player is an important asset on the field.…
