1. Discuss how PVRs will affect the demand from advertisers?
The increase usage of PVRs will result in the decrease of the demand from advertisers. The reason is that the more people use the PVRs to record TV shows and skipping commercials, the less viewers that commercials can reach which makes the commercials are less efficient. Therefore, there would be less demand from the advertisers.

2. Qd = 30 – 0.0002P +26V
a. The price should charge at $140,000; 28 minutes will be sold; and the total revenue will be $3,920,000.

b. If due to PVRs the number of expected viewer falls to 0.5 million, the quantity demand will decrease from 28 to 15.
Qd = 30 – (0.0002 x 140,000) + (26 x 0.5) = 15
Eviewers = ∆Q/ (Q1+Q2)/2 / ∆V/ (V1+V2)/2 = 15% / 16.7% = 0.9
That means the elasticity of viewers is inelastic. The decrease in number of viewers will results in the decrease in demand of advertising.

3. As more viewers begin using PVRs, the revenues of the major networks will most likely decrease. It’s because Total revenue = Price x Quantity Demand. If the price stays the same, the decrease in Qd will result in the decrease in Total Revenue.

4. If a significant proportion of the viewers begin adopting these “advertising snipping” systems, the long-run effects would be less and less company use commercials as their advertising method which will decrease the demand and revenues of advertising companies dramatically.

5. The advice that I would give to the major commercial networks and producers of programming for these networks is to make the commercials more interesting, more attractive and less time; so that the viewers will enjoy watching the commercials instead of thinking they are boring and skipping

    Television is one of the most dominating forms of communication in the world. In any first-world country, it would be surprising to hear of someone who doesn 't have a TV or have access to a TV. In Australia, people watch up to 6 hours of TV daily (Screen Australia, 2013). With this sort of attention, it 's only natural that businesses would utilise it to advertise their products, and as this and other technologies evolves it makes it far easier to access other markets that would have been unavailable in the past. Imagine sitting down on a Saturday night to relax and watch your favorite show. As you turn to your show you begin notice that the whole thing is full of ads, everything from the billboards in the back ground, to the logo on the coffee cup that the main character is drinking out of. This is exactly the kind of thing you can expect to see in the future. In his article Damian Ward Hey argues that it is in the best interest of the television and advertising industries to keep the balance between appropriate advertising and content. He uses evidence and examples of virtual advertising that relate to the audience as well as his well-educated tone of voice to make his claim, and ultimately succeeds in achieving his purpose of informing, while inciting fear of the possible future in the advertising market.…

    Wheeler had been warned by Ad Sales that TFC had to drop the price for a unit of advertising next year by 10% if the networks did not make some changes in it’s performance, she knew in order to hold or increase price it would be crucial to attract a critical mass of viewers. The key would be targeting the right viewers and offering advertisers an attractive mix of viewers when compared with what compatitors were offering. At the same time, she knew that the network needed to maintain its overall audience ratings with the cable consumers and the cable affiliate distribution network. If the network changed its offerings in a way that disappointed too many cable subscribers, it could risk losing its distribution support. Another Wheeler plans were to build a strategy…

If this number is less than the last year’s viewership, the viewership rating will drop. t’s the holy grail of digital marketing: the viral ad, a pitch that large numbers of viewers decide to share with family and friends. Several techniques derived from new technology can help advertisers attain this. In our research, two colleagues and I use infrared eye-tracking scanners to determine exactly what people are looking at when they watch video ads. We also use a system that analyzes facial expressions to reveal what viewers are feeling. These technologies make it possible to isolate elements that cause people to stop watching and to nd ones that keep them engaged. In addition, they make it possible to determine what kinds of ads are most likely to be shared and what types of people are most likely to share them. Here are ve big problems online advertisers face, along with solutions that have emerged from our research. PROBLEM eyes. They also focus on logos. This isn’t the boon it might seem: The more prominent or intrusive the logo, the more likely viewers are to stop watching— even if they know and like the brand. Why?
