Case Study: Turnermoore LLP
TurnerMoore LLP is an accounting firm with 21 partners across Ontario. They offer accounting, auditing, taxation, and advisory services for personal and business needs. Brian Moore, Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants (FCPA), Fellow of Certified General Accounting (FCGA), and Licensed Public Accountant (LPA), is a founder and top manager of the company. He plays interpersonal, informational, and decisional roles in many aspects of the company. He manages three offices and helps develop the rules, guidelines, and procedures that partners must follow. He employs approximately 6 people in his offices, 1 with their CPA license, 3 with book keeping skills, and 2 with various administrative skills. Consisting of family members and …show more content…
New rules come out every day, and he has to stay up to date on changes. Tax and union laws, medical and insurance policies, housing markets and interest rates, they all come together and affect economic stability, which in turn will affect the advice given to clients. This means the most important trends that need to be monitored are the economic and political/legal trends, both in a general and specific environment. Social responsibilities are extremely high in the legal, ethical and economic sense. He is held personally responsible for violations and penalties if an error occurs. Some attention needs to be paid to technological trends as new software could potentially affect the efficiency of his services. For example, he recently put his business in the Cloud for easier access at different locations. Due to the demographics of the clientele he is not concerned about the ‘Do it yourself’ programs being created, like Turbo Tax, having an effect on his business. However there is one resource that is scarce, and that is the human resource. An integral part of the success of the business is well trained employees. Obtaining a CPA designation takes many years and often times multiple examination attempts. This combined with needing employees who have excellent human skills, organizational skills, and an entrepreneur’s mind set, is difficult to find. In fact one of the main reasons I have chosen to enter this field is his willingness and need to invest in future employees and an eventual successor.
