Casey Marie Anthony was born on March 19, 1986 to the parents of George and Cindy Anthony. She had grown up in Orlando, Florida along with her older brother Lee Anthony and her parents. She spent most of her time partying with friends in Downtown Orlando. Partying seemed like her favorite thing to do. She also lived a life full of secrets and lies. Casey would soon prove how good she really is at lying. After high school, Casey got a job working at Universal Studios. This is where she met Jesse Grund. Jesse and Casey started dating in January 2005, and their relationship blossomed, though it did come as a shock to Jesse when Casey told him six months she was pregnant and he was the father.

parents or brother that she was pregnant. However, they did get suspicious at her growing tummy. Her mom finally talked to her and Casey then told her mom she was pregnant. On August 9th, 2005 Cay lee Marie Anthony was born. Her birth certificate never listed a father. Having a baby now was going to put an end to her partying days, or so we thought. Casey continued to go out and party, sometimes not even coming home for a couple of days at a time. Cay lee was usually left with her grandparents to watch her. It was clear Casey wasn’t acting like a responsible parent and didn’t intend to. Cay lee was holding her mother back from her lifestyle and she had to think of a way to fix her problem.
Casey Anthony waited one month before reporting her daughter Cay lee missing.
And even then, it wasn’t Casey who called the Sheriff’s office to report that Cay lee had been abducted. Casey’s mother Cindy Anthony called the Sheriff’s office on July 15, 2008 at 8:44pm. Cindy told the dispatcher that she needed a deputy to come to her house and she hadn’t seen her granddaughter in a month. When the Sheriff arrived Cindy explained to him that they got a letter in the mail that Casey’s car was in a tow yard and needed to be picked up. So George went to go pick up her car and the car smelled like there had been a dead body in it. The sheriff pulled Casey to the side to ask her some questions about when she last seen her daughter. Casey told him that she had dropped Cay lee off at Zany, her nanny’s house at the Saw grass Mills Apartment complex on June 16, 2008. Zany told Casey she was keeping Cay lee because Casey wasn’t acting like a mom. Casey told the Sheriff she didn’t report Cay lee missing sooner because she was out looking for her. Police detectives later found out that although Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez did exist, she had never met Casey nor Cay lee Anthony, any member of the Anthony family, or any of Casey’s …show more content…
friends.
Casey Anthony was first arrested on July 16, 2008, and was charged the following day with giving false statements, child neglect, and obstruction of a criminal investigation. She was released on August 21, 2008 after her bond was posted. Casey Anthony was offered a limited immunity deal by prosecutors until September 2, 2008 but did not take it. On October 14, 2008, Casey was indicted by a grand jury on charges of first degree murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter of a child, and four counts of providing false information to police.
On December 11, 2008, Roy Kronk, a meter reader had discovered human remains in a plastic bag, in a wooded area near the Anthony family home. The bag was closed with yellow plastic ties and duct tape was found on the mouth of the skull. The next day it was confirmed that the remains that were found were those of Cay lee Anthony. Over the next four days, more bones were found in the wooded area near the spot where the remains had initially been discovered. Cay lee’s death was ruled a homicide and the cause were listed as undetermined.
Casey Anthony’s trial began on May 24, 2011, at the Orange County Courthouse, with Judge Belvin Perry presiding. Her defense attorney Jose Baez told the jurors at the very beginning of the case that this was an accident that snowballed out of control. He then went on to explain to the jury that Cay lee had drowned accidentally in the family’s pool on June 16, 2008, and was found by George Anthony, who then covered up Cay lee’s death. Mr. Baez also made claims that George Anthony had sexually abused Casey since she was 8 years old. Also, he claimed Casey’s older brother Lee Anthony made sexual advances toward her as well. Lee Anthony was also given a paternity test to see if he was the father of Cay lee. The results were negative. The defense had no proof of the sexual abuse from George or Lee. Jose Baez rationalized Casey’s behavior as the result to her dysfunctional family. In his closing statement, Jose Baez told the jurors that just because Casey Anthony decided not to testify is not an implication of guilt.
The prosecution team was led by Linda Burdick and Jeff Ashton.
The show the death of Cay lee an alleged intentional murder and were asking for the death penalty against Casey Anthony. The prosecutors believe that Casey used chloroform to render her daughter unconscious before putting duct tape over her nose and mouth to suffocate her. Then, Casey left Cay lee’s body in the trunk of her car for a couple days before disposing it. The prosecution painted Casey as a party girl who killed her daughter to free herself from the responsibilities of being a parent. The fact that Casey was told about the drowning theory in jail by her own mother and that this is where she got the idea for such a defense was also brought up. Casey Anthony has lied so many times to family and law enforcement about the whereabouts of her daughter. As her daughter was missing during the first thirty days she continued to go out partying with friends and she also went out and got a tattoo on her back of “Bella Vita” which in Italian means beautiful life. Casey wasn’t acting like a concerned mother looking for her missing
daughter.
There was a lot of evidence in presented and analyzed in this trial. The prosecution introduced scientific evidence that could be the key to their case. Most of the forensic evidence centers around Casey Anthony’s car, such as a hair and stain found in the trunk, traces of chloroform and chloroform were significant pieces of the state’s investigation. FBI Specialist Karen Lowe testified that a hair sample found in Casey’s trunk shows signs of decomposition. Post-mortem root banding, the scientific name for the phenomenon, has never been used as evidence in a Florida criminal trial until Casey’s case. Dr. Arpad Vass had analyzed the air sample from the trunk and found overwhelming evidence that a decomposed body had been in it. He also found shockingly high levels of chloroform in the trunk. In the trunk was a bag of trash that was used to mask the smell of Cay lee’s decomposing body. The Sheriff’s office had used a cadaver dog to search for signs of human remains or a dead body. The dog had alerted when he was by the trunk of Casey’s car and when the officer opened up her trunk. The dog also alerted to a couple spots in the Anthony’s backyard as well.
There were 700 pages of documents related to the Anthony investigation, which included evidence of Google searches of the terms “neck breaking,” “death,” on the Casey home computer. Someone also searched the internet for the use of chloroform and how to make it several times. At the crime scene the same type of laundry bag, duct tape, and plastic bags were found in the house were Casey lived. A heart shaped outline was originally seen on the duct tape that was recovered from the mouth area of Cay lee’s skull. Heart shaped stickers were also found at the Anthony house. A Winnie the Pooh blanket that matches Cay lee’s bedding was missing and found at the crime scene.
On July 5, 2011, the jury found Casey Anthony not guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated manslaughter, and aggravated child abuse, but guilty on four misdemeanor counts of providing false information to a law enforcement officer. On July 7, Casey was sentenced to one year in jail and $1000 in fines, the maximum penalty prescribed by law, for each of the four counts of providing false information to a law enforcement officer, with the sentences to be served consecutively. She was credited 3 years for the time she had already served, plus credit for good behavior. Casey Anthony was released from the Orange County Jail on July 17, 2011.
The jurors decided Casey Anthony was not guilty because they said the state didn’t show enough evidence, like a date of death, a time of death, the murder location, and cause of death. Some of the jurors stated that they were sick to their stomach that they chose not guilty. One juror stated that she didn’t say Casey was innocent, but there was just not enough evidence to convict her. It all came down to not knowing the cause of death.
I definitely don’t agree with the verdict at all. She could have at least gotten aggravated manslaughter with a life sentence instead of the death penalty. I truly think there was enough evidence against her to convict her. I can’t understand why they didn’t charge her with aggravated child abuse. I’m sorry but what kind of mother doesn’t report their child missing for 30days and still goes out and party’s. The jurors now make it look like anyone can go 30days without reporting their child missing and/or murder them and think they can get away with murder. I really think these jurors made a huge mistake and they are better off not talking to the media or showing who they are, because there are a lot of angry people that can’t believe they let a child killer go free. Casey lied over and over, why the jurors would think she wouldn’t lie about killing her kid. She is 100% a pathological liar. Cay lee’s cause of death couldn’t have been determined because of the environment she was thrown out in. It’s very sad knowing there was no justice for this little girl. I hope Casey suffers for the rest of her life knowing that she killed her child and even though she was found not guilty, a lot of people believe she is guilty.
