A college degree is not exactly necessary in becoming a Casting Director as much as gaining personal experience. It is recommended to begin working as a casting assistant first to acquire knowledge and learn from the director him/herself. Working as a casting assistant, you develop contacts which is the easiest and most common way to enter the world into casting. By developing contacts, you gain connections and a reputation as well. To further education and experience, training at a drama school or participating in classes in theater, acting, or business during high school and then going on to complete a bachelor’s degree program can increase opportunities as well as learning to negotiate contracts (“Casting Director Career …show more content…
A Casting Director has to have the ability to spot talent which requires the director to be very observant and have a keen memory. After hours of sitting through hundreds of candidates that come in and try out for a part, it can be terribly frustrating and exhausting during the auditioning process. As said from the source Casting Director, “Directors and Producers have to be highly selective, and may be extremely demanding, so it is vital that Casting Directors are patient, hardworking and diplomatic at all times.” It can be difficult to find the perfect actor/or actress that fits the role the director envisions so the job of a Casting Director is to satisfy the director’s needs and stay persistent and focused on the task. However, the Casting Director may be dealing with more than one task at a time so it is important that he/or she is able to multitask, stay organized, and have a very flexible schedule (“Casting Director” 1).
