Period 8 Catch Me If You Can, Frank Abagnale with Stan Redding Characters: 1. Frank Abagnale- tall, thin, clean cut, very intelligent, cunning, mysterious, nice, caring. Frank Abagnale was the main character, an innocent boy who was from a newly broken home and sought amusement in conning people into giving him money. This became his profession at age 17 and was successful until age 20. He was smart and daring. He observed situations which helped him accomplish his schemed. In each situation Abagnale changed himself to fit the persona he needed to pull off his schemes. Throughout the novel he pretends to be a doctor, lawyer, writer and sociology professor. 2. * He had to prove to himself and others he could do anything he said he could do. Therefore anytime a challenge arose or was offered as just a regular opportunity he took it, fueling him to be the best con artist in the United States Conflicts: * He can’t settle down or have relationships with people because he’s always running from the law. * He has to more from state to state an all over the country because he is being hunted by the FBI. * He can’t trust anyone because they could turn on him at anytime and he would never have to face the law and maybe be arrested. * Overall he couldn’t lead a normal life because his so called “profession” was illegal and he had to live cautiously and on the road. Thematic Concern: The thematic concern of this book is where or not in the end all of his cons and schemes worth him not being able to settle down and enjoy his life or start a family. Although he enjoyed living for the thrill he sometimes regretted having to live on the road and not being able to trust anyone.
