from that day on, security in all the sense of the word incremented not only in the USA, but worldwide. Airports became more watchful, prisons became stricter, special agencies went through limits to find safety etc… After the violent acts on 9/11’s, The United States of America prevented further attacks by making changes in travel security, creating high-security jails to hold war-prisoners from “war on terror” like Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and by establishing new laws against terrorism. 9/11 drastically changed airport security so that passengers could be safe during their flight.
Before 9/11, it was easy to board an airplane with a dangerous weapon or enter the plane with no ticket. September 11, of 2001 changed that. George Bush administration secured airlines so that traveling with a potential weapon is almost impossible. Here are some examples of the regulations made to increase airport security: In order for a traveler to pass migration, they need to have a plane ticket, and need to carry their identification. An officer can submit a passenger (who needs to be 18 or older) into a specialized pat-down, to check there is no type of weapon attached to his/ her clothes or body. A passenger cannot bring a bottle containing liquids that surpass the 100 milliliters inside their handbags. This regulation was established so that nobody can disguise chemical components as water, to create an instant bomb in the plane. Another law that surged after 9/11, created by the Bush administration and followed by the Obama administration is that an official can search through documents, whether they are electronic or paper. This is to secure the safety of the passengers and to check no traveler has a “suspicious” document. it. Safety measures were not only taken in airports but were also established in prisons.
Prisons for “war on terror” attackers were built by the US after 9/11. The main “war on terror” jail is today located in Cuba, and it is called Guantanamo Bay. It is a high-security detention camp established by President George W. Bush in 2002. Nevertheless, Guantanamo Bay is a prison that created controversy, for the treaty towards its inmates. The government of Cuba leased 45 square miles of land to the USA, so that they could create a naval station. This base has cost the US billions of dollars to run and operate from taxpayer dollars, and is known for their inhumane torture techniques to interrogate prisoners. Additionally, more than 85 percent of detainees transferred out of Guantanamo by the Obama Administration is not even suspected of engaging in any terrorist activity. This is why Guantanamo Bay detention camp is very judged. In 2009, former president Barack Obama signed an executive order to close the prison within a year, which didn't happen. In 2018 president Donald J. Trump signed another executive order so that the doors to Guantanamo Bay would remain open. This detention camp was built to stop “war on terror” terrorist, and is now one of the most hated prisons in the world. However, Guantanamo Bay is still working today, and is being used by the US government. The world doesn't know if it will ever shut down, but we know it was created to stop further terrorist
attacks. The US government not only tried to keep peace with prisons, but also tried establishing new laws to protect citizens. One of the laws created after the 9/11 attacks was the Patriot Act Policy. This policy expanded law enforcement against terrorism. It was created on October 26, 2001 (41 days after the 9/11 attack), by President George W. Bush. His wish was to reinforce security by wiretapping (secretly monitoring telephone and internet conversations by a third party), and monitoring internet searches/ texts. This with the purpose to prevent terrorism in the USA. Citizens didn't approve this policy because they sensed it as a violation of their privacy. This was because the government could intrude all their devices. On may 2011, Obama renewed several parts of the Patriot Act an additional four years, despite opposition from the civil rights group. So that civilians weren't so concerned with this law, former president Obama made it illegal to wiretap a conversation without the court's approval. As a result, this calmed down some Americans, and assured their safety. The Patriot Act is one of USA’s ways to prevent terrorist attacks, so that they could unite and strengthen America. Due to the 9/11 terrorist attack, The United States of America took actions to prevent further events like the one mentioned before, this includes increasing airport security, constructing detention camps for “war on terror” terrorist, and by creating new anti-terrorism policies. To keep their people safe, USA’s government works hard every day so that an atrocity like the one occurred in 2001 never repeats. Even if some of the regulations established are controversial, governments should take precautions to prevent disgraces. The world will never be the same after 9/11, and it shouldn’t be the same. The tears, and bloodshed on September 11, 2001, will be remembered, and we will try to honor them by making this world a safer place for everyone.
