People rushed to shelter, but for thousands they didn’t make it. Homes were swept away by massive waves from the ocean. The website, Huffpost, explains 300,000 people were injured. Also according to the Balance, 230,000 were killed. Most deaths were caused by falling trees and flying debri. It destroyed 60% of the government's buildings.
Thousands of people were left with food shortages and no water to live on. Huffpost confirms that 1.4 million people were in need of food and only 800,000 people were helped. All food was destroyed. All clean water was contaminated with cholera bacteria. Cholera Bacteria is a toxin which gives you diarrhea and makes you very dehydrated. Some people got disaster kits from church’s that provided them with clean water, food, and hygiene things. People from other parts of Haiti went all over give out kits that had food and clean water in them. Crops were all ripped and pulled apart through the area. This left people with no water and no food to keep them alive. People were suffering through starvation, and had nothing they could do. The hurricane caused flying debri and trees to be pulled out of the ground. Garbage was all over the place and the area looked totally wrecked. Everyone lost hope in being able to
