I. Introduction
In the current society of the United State, the rampage of gun violence is one of the most serious problems. We can see the plenty of shooting issues occur frequently on the front page of the newspaper. There were 8583 homicides by firearms in 2011, out of 12,664 homicides total, according to the FBI. This means that more than two-thirds of homicides involve a firearm. Guns are also involved in suicides and accidents. 19392 of 38264 suicides in 2010 involved a gun (50%), according to the CDC. Basically, there are two primary causes of gun violence in the United State. Firstly, the popular culture is the most important reason which causes mass issue of gun violence. As Dziewanski says, "violence, particularly gun violence, can be learned. As young men take lessons from the world around them, some appear to relate to violent imagery, as it justifies and even glorifies their own use of arms" (Dziewanski 2011, para 5). Adolescents are still in the learning period, which means they can be easily affected by those violent film, music and video games. In most of those sources, the protagonists are like heroes, and almost all of them hold powerful weapons to kill enemies, and innocent people. There are many Non-government Organization focus on reduce the gun violence in the United State. Cure Violence, a Chicago-based organization, treated violence in one such local cluster as a public health problem rather than a criminal justice issue.(Nocera,2013) Being a ranked #9 on Global Journal’s list of top 100 NGOs in 2013, Cure violence has its model to deal with violence. The model has three steps, Interrupt transmission Identify and change the thinking of highest potential transmitters and Change group norms. “First, they deploy violence interrupters who use a specific method to locate potentially lethal, ongoing conflicts and respond with a variety of conflict mediation techniques both to prevent imminent violence and to change the norms around the need to use violence. Then they employ a strong outreach component to change the norms and behavior of high-risk clients. Outreach workers act as mentors to a caseload of participants, seeing each client multiple times per week, conveying a message of rejecting the use of violence, and assisting them to obtain needed services such as job training and drug abuse counseling. Outreach workers are also available to their clients during critical moments – when a client needs someone to help him avoid a relapse into criminal and violent behavior. Finally, In order to have lasting change, the norms in the community, which accept and encourage violence, must change.
