healthy and jobs are plentiful, newcomers find it easier to become established and work their way up the socioeconomic ladder” (Parrillo, 2014; p 44). . However, when the economy slopes, the competition for jobs over the population increases and people’s jobs are affected resulting in rigid competition for positions, often leaving specific minorities without a chance to seek employment “The resulting impact is that growth is often observed in raw output and population change” (Hall, Howell, and Moroney, 2012; p 229). When the economy is in a downward trend growth is not possible, the people within the country tend to push out the immigrants and unskilled laborers to compete for jobs. The result is an increase in poverty, particularly in the minority areas of the country. Another contributing factor to poverty is the low access to technology and education to people attempting to acquire jobs. Without access to the technology that is used in this current day and job market, those in poverty are unable to acquire and receive the training need to hold a successful career “Technological progress has reduced the number of low status, blue-collar jobs and increased the number of jobs requiring more highly skilled and educated workers. As a result, fewer jobs are available for unskilled, foreign, marginal, or unassimilated people (Parrillo, 2014; P 44). However, by bringing education and providing training in low income areas, a resolution can be reached for carrying people out of poverty and creating new job opportunities “Operationally, this means marketing productivity-enhancing goods and services to millions of people, often poor and rural, who form what is called the bottom of the pyramid” (Kuriyanm Ray, and Kammen, 2008, p 70). Creating programs and trainings in low-income areas helps provide a method for people escape poverty and attempt to assimilate into the modern culture. Another challenge facing communities in poverty is the lack of successful people to provide a role model for younger generations.
Usually those who are lucky enough escape the poverty area, do not return due to the bad influences and crime they are surrounded by “Recent public health research suggests that social exclusion, i.e., being denied access to resources, such as education, housing, and employment, harms health, and social inclusion promotes well-being” (Juliana van, Nicholas, Princess, and Sandro, 2006; 372). Not having the support of family or prosperous people, creates a generational attitude that results in a continual poverty cycle “They have usually absorbed the basic values and attitudes of their subculture and are not psychologically geared to take full advantage of changing conditions or increased opportunities which may occur in their lifetime” (Parrillo, 2014; p 40). In order to help change this trend successful people need visit and teach these communities how to break the poverty
cycle. Poverty in the US is a cycle that is caused from multiple conflicts in society. By addressing the economy and allowing people access to technology, those in poverty will have an opportunity to break this continual cycle. This along with positive encouragement and support from successful citizens will help create a society that has access to equal employment and opportunity to carve out a living and provide for there families as positive role models.
