And it even got more worse through the time. By the time 1800s, it looks like the country would split in half because of slavery. In 1860, the elected president is Abraham Lincoln. He also discuss about slavery, he said If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong. Lincoln knew if he tried to get rid of slavery, the United States might torn in half.. He don’t want South to break away from United States, so he don’t talk about ending slavery. Instead, he talked about that slavery should not be spread into new areas. But Southerners are still worried about Lincoln, they are afraid if Lincoln would try to put an end to slavery everywhere. At the time of December 1860, South Carolina break away from the United States. After South Carolina seceded, many other states also seceded, like Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and Georgia. Those states soon formed their own country, the Confederate States of America. And they also have an elected president, their president is Jefferson Davis.

Many soldiers own the forts that is nearby Fort Sumter in the South Carolina, and they also want to own Fort Sumter too. Later the fort was controlled by Union major Robert Anderson, he and the other sixty-eight men were very hungry and thirsty, because they are running out of foods and water. Them Lincoln was trying to help them, and he send a ship to the fort with many supplies. Lincoln don’t want to have a fight there, so he told them he will not send any weapons or soldiers as long as the fort and the ship were not attacked. Later on, Jefferson Davis had made up his mind, he will attack the fort. On April 21, Jefferson Davis send a couple men from the South to Fort Sumter. And those men carries an important message, he said if the Union troops don’t surrender and give up the fort, the South will attack them.
But Anderson did not surrender and give them the fort. So during the morning time, about 4:30 A.M., the Confederates, which is the South, has begin attacking the Fort Sumter with a cannon. Finally, after a day and a half, Anderson knew he has no hope for winning, because he has very less ammunition and only a few men left. So Anderson was forced to surrender and give up the
