Violence is a learned behavior. Human beings are not born violent. We learn violence through sports violence, violence at home, and violence in video games, movies, and in the media. The violence we learn can also be through arts of fighting or self protection. Just having a brother or sister influences a child’s level of aggression. An older sister or brother who is very aggressive increases a younger sibling’s chances of being aggressive too. A younger brother or sister that is very aggressive increases an older sibling’s level of aggression. All these things contribute to why children are so violent towards their siblings. Usually, sister-sister relationships have less fighting than brother-brother relationships or brother-sister relationships. There is evidence that an older sister protects younger siblings from being aggressive, but having an older brother has the opposite effect. Younger children learn how to be aggressive by watching their older brothers or sisters. One way this can be controlled is by using points to help control your children, such as having bad points for everything bad kids do. There could be a chart for the amount of points each bad thing that happens, like hitting is 1 point while kicking in the legs is 3 points. The points would add up at the end of the week and determine who would do the dishes for the next week, or how much money could you spend in the next week, or how much allowance you would get for the next week.
