Closed Circuit Television, also known by the acronym CCTV, is a private or closed video system where viewing of the video is restricted to a specific group of individuals. “monitoring system that uses video cameras as a means of surveillance” (Goold 2004).CCTV can be seen at present in many shops, stadiums, train stations, offices and even homes and other private venues.
A security camera is usually installed in an area to improve the safety of the people by preventing crime or to monitor what happens there. Many people and organizations around the world have learned to take advantage of a CCTV kit and employed it use for various purposes, including research. In fact, it has been decades since men discovered and experienced the benefits of having one.
The visual images created by a CCTV are sent to a monitor and recorded on video tape or as digital information it may be viewed while an event is happening or recorded for ‘after-thefact’ review either on-site or off-site. The cameras can be fixed or set to scan an area or they can be operated by controllers. Monitors can be watched by controllers or left unmonitored. Review is done via the use of VHS videotapes, CD, DVD, and/or other such tape or computer based mediums. Such reviews of prerecorded visual information may also be done ‘remotely’ through the use of telephone lines, fiber optics, microwave, the internet, and/or a host of other such transmission methods according to the design and complexity of the CCTV system.
