Cdf Pros And Cons
The Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) is an organization that advocate and research children. Its purpose is ensuring all the children can have healthy lives and have successful passage to adulthood with external and internal help. CDF tries to provide support to the children who are disqualified and children who are disabled or poor. Despite the living standards of the poor children improved a lot for these years, there is a conflict opinion in America. Some people think CDF still cannot radically resolve the child misery in the US, even after the welfare reformation. They think Children’s Defense Fund is not part of the solution that can help children.

In 1996, the government reformed the welfare system; the legislation scrapped the title AFDC and renamed it as TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Family). AFDC (Aid to Families with Dependent Children) was known to support single parents and their children without neglecting anyone. The government was obligated to give benefits to anyone who qualified regardless of the amount of money that the program costed (Cherlin, 2013). Single parents were able to stay home as a full-time parent in order to take care of their children. Now, AFDC was renamed to TANF which consisted of a different way of assisting the needy family. TANF is now known as a financial assistance to low-income families. It was not recognized to give out welfare benefits anymore.…

Have you ever thought that you are happier than many children in the world? On the other hand, they do not have enough good conditions to live and develop themselves, including poverty. How will they struggle for their lives with their small hands? They probably need our help to rescue them out of danger. “The Singer Solution to World Poverty”, which is written by Peter Singer, is a solution to save children's lives. Singer persuades the reader to participate in helping children who lack food, get many diseases, and do not have good living conditions. His argument is that all of us should contribute to saving the children’s lives According to “The Singer Solution to World Poverty”, this solution totally has the ability to be done by our help; however, I am not completely persuaded that I will help children by following Single’s solution.…

Singer calculates that “$200 in donations would help a sickly 2-year-old transform into a healthy 6-year-old” (Singer 2). No one would say that spending money to help a child in need is wasteful; however, preserving the child’s life would not save it from poverty. The child would be alive, but it would still grow up poor and uneducated, and, in all likelihood, its children would be the same. Singer’s solution for poverty is, in all actuality, not a solution at all. His ideas would be great for lowering the fatality rate due to malnourishment or diseases, but he gives no solution to adequately deliver the world from poverty. Donating to children-saving charities, while honorable, does not do much in fixing the problem at hand, worldwide…

The general argument made by author Matt Bruenig in his work, “Why the government should pay every American child an allowance”, is that every American child should receive monthly benefits by the government. More Specifically, Matt Bruenig argues that child poverty is still a problem today and that if it is ever going to end then the government needs to start taking action. He says that they should start providing every American child with monthly benefits. He writes, “I’ve calculated that a universal child benefit program that paid parents $300 per month per child would have dramatic effects.” (2). In this passage, Matt Bruenig is suggesting that if the government paid parents monthly, for every child they had, then people would start to see a difference in child poverty. In conclusion, Matt Bruenig’s belief is that every American child should be provided with monthly benefits in order to end child poverty.…

Many of the programs focus on individual poverty rather than structural inequalities, making it insufficient (Raphael, 2011, pg.424). Chapter 13 outlines four main areas of focus relevant to the programs, first if the strategy are meeting the expectations of advocacy groups, second is the focus on families with children, third is increasing employment to reduce poverty and fourth is avoiding the structural problems. The federal government offers child and family benefits through Canada Child Tax Benefit, which is a monthly payments to children less than 18 years of age. Other related benefits include National Child Benefit Supplements and Child Disability Benefits. The federal also provides $100 per month to children under the age of 6 (Raphael, 2011, pg.409). These payments they receive are based on their income tax. There are also…
