This can be seen in Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451, through how books are not aloud and taking walks looks suspicious, because things like this allow you time to think, and books give you information to think about. It had no prophetic or accurate predictions about the future, because of his statements about how the society is not allowed to form their own opinions, and learn, which is definitely not true in this society. As the novel begins we learn that books are forbidden and it's against the law to own any. Also, the firefighters no longer put out fires in buildings or houses, but it is their jobs to set fire and to burn books and the houses they are found in. Beatty explains to Montag that censorship was not the government's idea, but the peoples when he says, "It didn't come from the Government down. There was no dictum, no declaration, no censorship, to start with, no! Technology, mass exploration, and minority pressure carried the trick, thank God. Today, thanks to them, you can stay happy all the time..." (Bradbury 58). This helps demonstrate that Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451, is not accurate because Beatty is actually stating to Montag that censorship is present in the society, and he also basically says that the world is a better place with it present. Additionally, this reveals the theme of censorship because the quote tells us that technology, mass exploration, and the minority groups were the cause of censorship.This can be seen in contemporary life when words or phrases are bleeped out in songs or movies, or the warning labels on CD’s provide censorship because younger people can’t by them.
