Developmentally Appropriate Practice is based on a collection of knowledge from studies and assessments about how the majority of children in general learn and develop at certain ages. It is a guideline to help teachers understand the young child and how they develop. Using these practice guidelines allows teachers to improve their teaching skills as well as allowing each child to learn academically and socially.

- Each child’s abilities are different. What might be appropriate for one two-year old may not be appropriate for another.
- Different backgrounds and upbringing of children can be challenging. It makes it hard to communicate with as well as understand one another.
