Humans have to learn how to adapt to new environments and if they can do that well they can thrive. The nurturing atmosphere of a nurse residency program has shown that new graduate nurses are able to better make the transition from student nurse to professional nurse with the support of an in-depth and detail program such as this. With the constant changes and adaption that needs that is done and needs to be done successfully in that first year as a nurse, residency programs show that they are a viable program that can make that connection when pressure and stress is heightened. These programs create a group identity for the new graduate and instantly bring fellow nurses into their new environment where they go through this new process together. Measurable outcomes that would indicate success for an organization implementing a nurse residency program would include; decrease in turnover rate after one year, increase in employee job satisfaction on an employee opinion survey mainly looking at the demographic of a new grad nurse, along with an overall high score in job satisfaction as one continues through the nurse residency program during the first year. Continued nursing research is necesseary to look for more ways to tailor to new graduate nurses and continue to validate their feelings from graduate nurse to their first professional job as a novice nurse. Understanding how these nurses feel and being able to provide them with the available resources previous new graduates state they need when transitioning from a graduate nurse to a professional nurse, will provide more opportunities for an organization to actively involved their newcomers. Being actively involved with evidence-based practice initiatives is one of the best ways to incorporate them into a quality project. Following the Iowa model, facilities that use their mid-levels, which in this case would be the educators of the hospital, when implementing a program such as a nurse residency program, the mid-levels can find
