For example, some people have a medical condition that can cause extreme amounts of pain. That is due to a mutation of a gene called PRDM12 (Doc. 2). If you change the gene in that situation I personally believe that it would be ok. That is because it would help someone go through life easier. Another reason is healing someone of a genetic disease like cystic fibrosis (Doc. 3). Cystic fibrosis is a disease that is passed down from generation to generation and so on (Doc. 3). By correcting certain genes, the disease can be stopped in that person and it can stop it from going any further (Doc. 3). Similarly to preventing disease, a person can be protected from lifelong infections (Doc. 3). For example, scientist are trying to find a way to prevent Alzheimer's (Doc. 3). Some people want to use genes in order to make the baby of their dreams. In my opinion that shouldn't be how it works. That is because if nothing is medically or mentally wrong with your child he/she is perfectly fine as he/she is. By changing the way your baby looks, you might as well have made a robot baby if you want to make it ‘smarter and prettier’. Eighty-three percent of people would agree that changing a baby for it to be more intelligent is taking it way too far (Doc. 4). Another reason that changing a baby's gens isn’t ok is because of the possible risks that go along with it. Did you know that some genes control more than one thing about the baby? (OI). Like, if you wanted to make your child ‘smarter’ you may not realize that the genes your changing control more than just intelligence of the baby (OI). For example, a gene may affect the intelligence and anger management of the kid. You may end up with a kid that’s ‘smarter’, but the kid may be angrier than usual
