Candide and Cacambo had a great first day of traveling. There second day of traveling two sheep are swallowed by a swamp and several days later two more died due to exhaustion. They have traveled for one hundred days but would only be left with two sheep. Most of the sheep were gone and they had one hundred. The sheep that were left carried more jewels. Candide would be known to tell Cacambo that this is how fleeting the riches of the world are, and that the only things that would be enduring are virtue and happiness when seeing Cunégonde again. There was a mixed of emotions at the table and there had been six foreigners who had come to spend the Carnival in Venice. Cacambo was pouring a drink for one of them at the dinner table. A man is known to approach Candide from behind and grabs his arms, telling him to be ready to “leave with them” without fail. He and the other servants informed their masters that their ships were ready for departure; each left promptly after delivering his message. Candide turns around and is ecstatic to see Cacambo. He embraces his old friends and asks to take him to Cunégonde immediately. Cacambo is now known to be one of the slaves of the six strangers. Cacambo would be explaining that Cunégonde is in Constantinople and kindly offers to bring Candide to her. Summoned by his master, he is unable to say any more. The young man was told to be ready for supper and then be ready for their departure. This would not ruin Candide joy, and he asks Cacambo to take him to his beloved immediately. His former valet says they can leave after dinner but he cannot say anything. The six slaves had another kind of intelligence for his master.
