The Hastings

The Hastings first appear in Chapter 4. This occurs when Jim, a man spots the children near a fire pit in the bush. He obviously thought that the smoke that he saw was a fire. Instead he found the four children and an empty fire pit. After this indecent Jim said, 'Come into the house and have some water'.
The children accepted his offer and they came into the house? They were offered breakfast which included bacon and eggs, scones, butter and jam and a drink, which was a glass of milk. Jim's mum then came into the chapter on page 81 who was named Mrs Hastings. She then offered the children a bath, some dinner and a place to sleep. This would of been a great privilege for the children, considering they had been sleeping and living in the bush for the past four days. Mrs Hastings also offered, on page 86, to give the children a few bob and some supplies for the next stage of their journey, as they tried to find their dad along the Great Ocean road. In return for all of the gifts that Mrs Hastings and Jim gave the children, Isa was given a job to

This would of had been nice for the children as they probably needed a good wash and scrub. After that Mrs Higgs and Miss Nina provided the children with a good meal to eat and some drink. Soon after Mrs Nina offered some space and shelter to sleep and in return Isa was to finish the Jumper that Mrs Nina started. After a few days Nina and Mrs Higgs provided lots of mending for Isa and shelter for all the children. While the children were entertained with The nanny, Isa was given mending to do and some thread work. Finally in the end of the chapter Nina became really good friends with Isa and as Isa and the children were about to head back on the road, Nina made Isa promise to try and come back. Nina also gave Isa a compass in order for her to know which way she was going whilst looking for her

During the American Industrial Revolution that occurred in the 1800s, new technology and inventions were created, revolutionizing America. America's industrialization is referred to as a revolution because it's development of transportation, mass production, and immigration revolutionized America both economically and socially. Amid the 1800s, the US government encouraged the production of a transcontinental railroad by granting land to railroad companies. By 1869 a message could be sent from New York to San Francisco in 7 days. This transportation improvement allowed cattle to be sent from the West to meat packaging districts in the Midwest, then to the East for consumption without the meat going bad.…

There were many drawbacks that settlers had to face while settling in Charles Town. Settling is when you live somewhere permanent that you believe will be prosperous. When settlers set out to settle in Charles Town, Lord Ashley Anthony Cooper worked with these settlers to help face obstacles. Charles Town was founded at Albemarle Point on the Ashley River in 1670 by the English, and the name “Charles Town” honored Charles II, the King of England. Spanish explorers had first explored the coastal regions of South Carolina, but did not attempt a settlement because they angered local natives. Settling in Charles Town was difficult because of geography, resources, and diseases/natives.…

I chose http://www.marinersmuseum.org/sites/micro/cbhf/colonial/col007.html because it has art from the particular era that these events took place as well as primary sources. This site is related to the topic we are currently studying in the manner of its main subject: the settlement of the Chesapeake Bay. One thing I found interesting was George Percy’s journal entry on April 26th, 1607 (the day of arrival): "The six and twentieth day of April, about four o’clock in the morning, we descried the land of Virginia; the same day we entõred into the Bay of Chesupiocé we could find nothing worth the speaking of but fair meadows and goodly tall trees, with such fresh waters running through the woods as I was almost ravished at the first sight thereof. The nine and twentieth day, we set up a cross at Chesupiocé Bay and named that place ‘Cape Henry.’” His writing describes how although there was not much to Virginia, the nature was absolutely gorgeous.…

Also Mias aunt came and saw her and her best friend Kat. To me Kat encouraged her most by telling Mia that she still had a family no matter what. That there were still people that loved her and didn’t want to see her go. The thing that made her decide to stay was when Adam snuck into her room and started playing classical music in her ears and then pulled out his guitar and started playing her a song that he wrote for her. At that moment she knew she still had a family and that they loved she and she made the decision to…
