My personal “Brush with Greatness” was when I met Sadie Robertson at my hometown Mexican restaurant on July 2, 2015.
That summer was like any other, I spent most of my days by the pool or at the golf course with my boyfriend. As my last band camp of high school was approaching at the end of summer, I found myself contracting senioritis more and more each day. I went to camp for the whole week and on the last day, my best friend, Abby, and I, decided to eat at the local Mexican restaurant as a celebration for the end of our last band camp. Little did we know that we would not be going back to band camp after lunch as usual.
We were sitting there in a booth eating nachos when all of a sudden this younger guy with a young girl walked in the restaurant and sat down at the booth behind us. I remember Abby saying, “That guy is hot! He …show more content…
looks just like Sadie Robertson’s boyfriend, Blake Coward!” I told her that there is no way he would be here; he lives in Alabama. We decided to just keep eating, then before we knew it Sadie, herself, walked in and joined the table. Abby and I were shocked! We were giggling like little girls trying to build up the courage to go up to Sadie and ask her for an autograph or a picture.
In an instant, our lunch break from band camp had ended, but we honestly did not care. We just wanted to meet Sadie Robertson! We spotted this lady walking up to the booth where Sadie was sitting and she held out a book and asked, “Will you sign my book? My daughter and I are huge fans!” Sadie, being her genuine self, said, “Of course I will! Who do I make it out to?” the woman proceeded to tell Sadie her daughter’s name and brag about how much she loves the things Sadie is doing to impact the world.
Abby and I were sitting there thinking of how to approach her, then out of the corner of our eyes we see Sadie and her company standing up to leave. That finally put enough courage in us to stand up and ask her for a picture together. She said, “Sure!” so we quickly snapped a picture of the three of us. We thanked her and said, “We are such big fans of your family and books. She kindly thanked us for following along with her family’s television show. Abby and I just stood there in astonishment without saying a word. We were both so shocked at the experience that we did not know what exactly to say.
After Abby and I said our goodbyes, I went over to my boyfriend’s house to tell him what happened.
He was more of a fan of the Robertson family than I. He was shocked and did not believe me at first, so I showed him the picture we took together and he freaked out! After I left his house, I went home to my mother’s house and told her that I had met Sadie at lunch. She had no idea who Sadie was, so I had to show her, but after she realized who she was, she exclaimed, “Oh! That’s who she is. I just never knew her name.” I went to bed that night thinking about the kind of person Sadie Robertson is. I never knew one person could have such a big impact on young
girls.
The next weekend Abby and I were sitting at my house watching television, when all of a sudden this show came on talking about John Luke Robertson’s wedding from the previous week. Abby and I looked at each other in amazement then back at the television. We could not believe what we were seeing. The reporter talked about how beautiful the wedding was and showed a slideshow of a few wedding pictures. I caught a glimpse of Sadie in the background of a picture and I could not believe it. That must have been the reason she was in our hometown! John Luke’s wedding was located close to where I am from, so I guess Sadie was just stopping by on the way through.
This experience of meeting Sadie Robertson has influenced me religiously. I recently rededicated my life to the Lord and finally joined my family church. Seeing her being so involved with charity and religious movements inspires me want to venture out into the world one day and make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate. If you do not know who Sadie Robertson is, I suggest you research her and see all the amazing things she is doing in her life. She is, and always will be one of my biggest role models in life.
