Character Analysis Jackie Craig
Jackie Craig is a character who is really mischievous. He’s a man that is mostly unknown and judged because of keeping things to himself. People just don’t see the light in him.

Jackie is a man that you just can’t put a finger on in my opinion. He is simply just indescribable. In the book it says he is 5’11, medium built. The book also states that he looks like the kind of guy that could rob a 7/11 and get away with it. He has brown hair but just nothing that stands out. He is just a plain character that would look like an average person that you wouldn’t notice. Out of all this the only thing to sum him up is nondescriptive as the book states.

In the book whale talk you see that Jackie Craig’s not ‘’Mr. Popular.’’ Nobody really notices him through the whole book. That is until he joins the swim team. At first when he joined the kids that were on the swim team were really friends. If you read on you’ll tend to see him open up more and more. By the end of the book he gains love for the team. It’s like that team is his only passion and it motivates him to be happier. He is a really kind guy too, it’s just...People don’t give him a chance to show his true colors so he keeps everything to himself except for his team.

As you read on though you see that he starts opening up as you get farther along. The main reason in my opinion why he opens up as you read on into the book is because of the swimming team that he joins. He tried to play football but he had been cut from the team. Even though he doesn’t really talk, he is a really nice guy. In the book you’ll see this when the swim team is on the bus and they get into a deep conversation and he bursts in tears. On the bus Jackie had talked about how the team means so much to him because he really doesn’t have friends. As you can see though that has changed since this chapter in the

In The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi, Charlotte, the main character, is a thirteen-year- old girl who had to travel across the Atlantic to America as the only passenger on a ship. On her sea voyage, her courage was shown by the way she handled the many challenges and dangers that she encountered. For example, when she wanted to join the ship’s crew, she met resistance from the crew members, who finally decided that she must prove herself worthy before they would take her. The crew proposed, “Let her [Charlotte] climb the royal yard [highest sail on the mainmast of the ship]. If she does it, and comes down whole, and still willing to serve,…

In the beginning of his book he utilizes characterization to connect the reader to the fishermen and townspeople. “She’s a tall blonde who inspires crushes in the teenaged sons of some of her friends,” describes Junger, “but there’s a certain no-nonsense air about her that has always kept Bobby on his toes” (7). The way Junger describes Christina, Bobby Shatford’s girlfriend, sounds as if he knew her at the time. This use of pathos makes Junger a much more effective and believable…

Building good relationships involves time and effort. John Purcell never put any effort into trying to know his son because "most of the time he was too preoccupied with other things to pay much heed to the boy's activities". He never encouraged or supported Johnny and never participated or went to any of his son's events. He did not even know what baseball or swimming team Johnny was on. When the curate, Mr. Redpath, complimented Johnny on his exceptional swimming ability, the father realized that "he seemed to know less about the boy than anyone". However, he made the excuse that his son "was only a twelve-year-old who wanted to be left alone". Because…

Jackie Robinson was one of the best baseball players of all time. He started off playing in a league that they called the “negro league” but soon enough he was drafted by the 1946 all-white Montreal Royals. At first all of the players on the team hated him, they even made a petition and tried to boot him off the team and one player even wanted to be traded because he couldn’t stand playing with Jackie. But as time went on Jackie still kept his cool even though almost all the whites pushed his buttons and were extremely racist towards him and all blacks. But Jackie stayed calm and his team started accepting him and so did many other of the whites. And by the 1970’s half of the major league baseball community was black. They retired Robinson’s…

is that he is always looking out for the underdog, in this case the underdog is basically anyone who doesn’t initially play sports. One instance of this was, “Barbour has the jacket buttoned at the bottom and pulled down around Chris’s shoulders so he can't move his arms, and his nose is about an inch from Chris’s…tears squirt out of Chris’s terrified eyes…I hustle over and insert myself between them, put an arm around Chris’s shoulder and say, “What's the matter, buddy?’” (Crutcher 15). He is constantly acting by the lesson that just because someone is different doesn't mean that they’re worse or better than anyone else. On more occasions than one, he has stood up for Chris and many other characters who may need a little extra help. He knows what it is like to be a victim of bullying, and is always willing to help others. T.J. is a very realistic character who readers are able to relate to. In one way or another, readers can associate their life with T.J.’s because of the authentic situations that he goes through like bullying, racism, sports, school,…

He is a dynamic character because he changes throughout the story. Johnny is a round character because he is not predictable, he is multidimensional, and he is realistic. At the beginning of the story, Johnny is a shy character that seems to be a follower of the rest of the Greaser gang. As the story moves on, Johnny becomes a leader and no longer follows the rest of the gang. Also, Johnny begins to appreciate life more. He used to talk about killing himself, but realizes he doesn’t want to when he is actually dieing. Johnny thinks he did not do enough in his life. Lastly, at the start of the story, Johnny could not even hurt a fly. Later in the story, Johnny kills…

The character John Wilson is portrayed in the beginning as an honest man trying to make a better life for his family back home in Scotland. As the story unfolds we learn that jack's intentions are not what were originally portrayed. My opinion of jack Wilson started out as "just a man trying to better his family in a new world" but shortly after was challenged. He was the first black man to walk out on the MLB fields, which led to a ton of discrimination. He explains,”There were threats against me and my family and even out-and-out attempts at physical harm to me”(Robinson). This shows the difficulties he faced just as a black player in the fields, trying to play. The time here was the late 1980’s, which was the time of prejudice. He says again,”It hadn’t been easy to fight the resentment…”(Robinson) Later on, it shows that he kept calm, but showed this through his play. Through those years of trying to face those difficulties, Jackie Robinson changed a whole era of racial “rules” through MLB.…

Jackie was given a second chance when he started the next game. This time Jackie was focused and ready to play. Like last time he received multiple threat letters. He simply threw them in the trash and hit the field. Fans were furious to see that Jackie was starting again. The stadium was roaring with racial comments when he came out of the dugout. This time the yelling did not affect Jackie. With determination he blocked out everything going on except his main objective, which was, to play baseball. So with a smile on Jackie’s face he finished the game going 3 for 4 with 2 stolen bases.…

He had the roughest background to me out of the whole gang. He always had this spark of sadness in his eyes. The gang thinks of him as an abused puppy. To me after all he has been put through, he still does all these heroic things in the book, and seeing his background and seeing what he does just makes my mind blown. He has defiantly impacted me. He made me think that not all heros have a perfect super life. You don't have to be rich, or have a perfect life to show acts of kindness and braveness. Johnny showed both, and he may have made some mistakes, but everyone has and will. He may not be like every gang member , but he definitely showed that , he can do what he puts his mind to.…
