In a dimmed room stood 6 wooden chairs, all with worn out padding, brown from coffee stains, chained to wall behind them at the legs, so they couldnt used to thrown. On the opposite side of the room sat 2 men, both looking down to avoid eye contact, sitting in the worn out, brown, padded-less chairs, with an acrid smell swarming in the air

Security Guard: Montresor, do we have a Montresor?

Montresor: We have a Montresor, but do we have an angry security guard?

As the security guard looked up at the puny Montresor, he took him by the back and pushed him aggressively into the interrogation room.

Montresor: Wow, looks like someone has an acute temper

Interrogator: Take a seat

Montresor: Very well, may we begin?

Interrogator: I have been

The Interrogator stands up and yells with grand gesticulations.

Interrogator: (Yelling) You Sit now! Did I say we were finished? I am the one who is presiding here, we are finished when I say we are finished.

Montresor with a smirk walked back proudly and sat down with his arms crossed, as the two stared at each other

Montresor: What are you waiting for, let's go

Interrogator: Why were there no workers at the residence of yours last friday,

Montresor: It's carnival season, they deserve the night off

Interrogator: And why was it, that both thou and Fortunato were not seen nearing the end of the carnival?

Montresor: I was besotted, needed some rest, and who knows with Fortunato, and where the mind of an imbecile like him may have guided him to, or what it might have made him say to make a joke about someone-

Interrogator: I thought you didn't know the man very well, please continue

Montresor: Continue what, I didn't say anything?

Interrogator: You just spoke about Fortunato being an imbecile, why did you not explain him earlier, is he ineffable? Or perhaps do you not like him, why is he an imbecile?

Montresor: Imbecile, what are you talking about? I would never say that, I think you beginning to imagine things, are you

"THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge"(P.1,Li.2-4). To begin with, Montresor is an unreliable narrator. I think this because in the beginning of the story,(174) Montresor does not give any background or evidence of being insulted by Fortunato. The texts says, “ The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as best I could...” Usually, when you are blaming someone that has done wrong to you, you would give a background, or evidence that they are in the wrong. My reason number two is that Montresor exaggerates his feelings and actions in the story, which is also why I believe he is bragging about his crime. “There were no attendants at home; they had absconded to make merry in honor of the time...I well knew, to ensure their immediate disappearance, one and all, as soon as my back was turned.” (176) Here is a perfect example of Montresor's bragging. He's basically saying that, he the best of the best, the head chief, and everyone knows when he says to do something, they do it.…

Still, it also is a complex situation open to individual interpretation. Montresor plan of murder is motivated by a number of insults which are never mention in the story. However, the constantly indication of his family to be involved on the conflict may well take the reader to believe on a possible payback for some past encounter between families of society and power. The narrator’s tone when describing Fortunato, is a held feeling of likely envy, “You are rich, respected, admired, beloved, you are happy, as once I was.” Montresor sees on Fortunato, what he proclaims had once and misses at the moment. Therefore, Montresor reliability is to be…

The phrases used by the narrator to demonstrate hyperbole is “THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge.” This line makes me feel less sympathetic toward the narrator/murderer. I feel less sympathetic for him since why does he even wants to seek revenge over an insult. Although the narrator states he was been insulted by Fortunato numerous time as he exaggerates…
