After the first murder in the novel, Miss Claythorne shows that she has a strong-point in
coming up with a solution to the issues on Soldier Island, and will work to find solutions. She works with Miss Brent to help spot when a boat is coming towards the island, and comes with the idea of lighting a bahn fire to signal for help, but when they have decided this, it is storming, and they are unable to signal help due to the weather conditions. Not only does Miss Claythorne show that she is very knowledgeable about solving issues, but she shows that she has a very strong mental strength, and is able to convince people of believing things that are not real. After the first 2 deaths, all of the people on Soldier Island begin to realize that this is a murder scheme, and they are getting close to a point of death. After the 8th death, Miss Claythorne is becoming extremely cautious, and while her and Philip Lombard are talking, she takes his gun from him without him knowing, and when they get in an argument, “he sprang quick as a panther-- as any other feline creature” (Christie 264) and “Philip Lombard was dead -- shot through the heart….” (Christie 265)
Miss Claythorne has shown a great amount of mental and physical strength, but also had shown she had the ability to survive. Miss Claythorne had the ability to play mind tricks on people, to convince them of a large amount of fear. Due to this, they could not trust her, and they were unsure about their trust.
