Essay about The Five People You Meet in Heaven
Subject: Compare Eddie’s encounters with death during his life and the experience of his own death. Eddie was an 83 years old man. He worked in Ruby Pier, an amusement park, where he maintained the rides during all his life. He really didn’t like his job. During his life, Eddie saw the death of a lot of person that he knew: his wife, his father, his “war friend”. He was linked to some of this deaths but he didn’t know. It’s only when he died and when he went to Heaven that he learned this fact. His experiences after his death, when he is in Heaven, explain many things about Eddie’s life. That’s what we will see in this analysis. The death of the Blue Man is a perfect example to illustrate

The captain always said that they will stay together and that he will never abandon a person who isn’t dead. When they arrived to escape from their captivity, they burnt the village. In the fire Eddie saw something and thought that it was a human. He wanted to save him but in fact, there was nothing. The captain shot Eddie in the leg to save him from the fire. It’s a very important moment in Eddie’s life; nothing will be the same from this day. Page 88: “All Eddie knew was that he’d awaken in a medical unit and his life was never the same. His running was over. His dancing was over. Worse, for some reason, the way he used to feel about things was over, too. He withdrew. Things seemed silly or pointless. War had crawled inside of Eddie, in his leg and in his soul. He learned many things as a soldier. He came home a different man.” At that moment he almost died, he felt ready to die. Losing his leg was almost as losing his life. Page 91: “-My… leggggg! My life! –I took your leg, to save your life!” This wounded leg was a sort of death for Eddy, the end of his dream; this leg had ruined his life. It’s only when he met the captain in heaven that he understood why he did that. Thanks to the captain, Eddie can learn that sacrifice is a part of life and that we wouldn’t regret the sacrifices we have done and he forgave to the captain because he sacrificed his life to save Eddie’s and two other boy’s

Netta and Eddie are both hard working people who make an effort to try and get things done and through their pride and determination they are able to accomplish great things. Eddie fights for the rights and pride of his people while Netta stands by his side as well as constantly supporting the children by looking after them and working to provide food for them. Eddie was a focused and determined man and we see this throughout the film, one part was when Netta asked Eddie “what if you don’t win”, Eddie replies “DON’T YOU DARE!.” Perkins purposely put this scene it to show the dedication and resilience Eddie Mabo had in order to gain justice for his people, however Eddie would not be able to accomplish such tasks if it wasn’t for the strength and provisional care that Netta had for his children. Therefore without Netta’s assistance with the children Eddie couldn’t have been able to successfully focus on winning the court case for the future of his…

Before I saw The Diviners at SEMO I had no previous knowledge of the story, other than reading at callbacks a few months before. I talked to a few of my friends who were involved in the show and they told me that it was intense and that it would make me depressed. They were right. The Diviners was a great production because of the acting by Zach Coop and Cynthia Thomas and also because of the added character that the director Kaylin White created for the show, Buddy’s dead mother, played by Alex Jarvis.…

Eddie remembers how he would spend each of his birthdays with Marguerite. The narrator says “Taffy. He thinks about taffy. He thinks it would take his teeth out now,but he would eat it anyhow, if it meant eating it with her” (Albom 184). What Eddie is really thinking about is the time that he spent with Marguerite before she passed away and how much he had enjoyed every second with her. In “Thanatopsis” by William Cullen Bryant he states “Thou shalt lie down with the kings of the infant world” (Bryant 33-34). This line reflects on how we will all be united when we die so that people can make up for lost time on earth. “Thanatopsis” nostalgic view promotes the idea that all people will be reunited. In The Five People You Meet in Heaven , however the nostalgia stems from deep memories that provide an idea of the sacrifice needed to be reunited with those who have passed…

Don recalls seeing a welcoming party, including everyone he knew who had passed on before him. He had trouble describing his experience because human words could not explain the extravagant details of Heaven. Don goes on to illustrate gates constructed from pearls, a heavenly body illuminated by light, and choirs of angelic voices, like nothing he had ever seen or heard on Earth. Additionally, he states that while in Heaven, there was no measure of time, and he could not remember anyone from his former life, including his wife and children. Meanwhile on Earth, another pastor from Texas, Dick Onerecker, and a man who had never even met Don, felt a calling from God. By some miracle, Dick had attended the same conference as Don and was only a few cars behind when the accident occurred. Dick quickly rushes to the scene, where paramedics inform him that the man in the vehicle was dead, but Dick insists that he needs to pray over the lifeless body. Dick crawls into the smashed vehicle, lays his hand on Don’s shoulder, and begins a series of intense prayers. As time goes on, Don returns back to Earth and his first conscious memory is that he began to sing 'What a Friend we have in Jesus.' Dick recalls that he began to sing and the dead man began to sing with him. Shocked by what he just heard, Dick immediately signals a paramedic, and Don is transported to the hospital. Don has become a…
