Characterization Of Odysseus In Homer's Odyssey

Have you ever wondered how authors use characterization to show that people go on quests to journey to a specific place? Well by reading you will find out. Achilles leaves his homeland to become a hero not knowing that he was going to learn a lot more about himself on his journey. When Odysseus journeys to Troy and must return to his homeland of Ithaca but he faces many challenges in doing so. Achilles wonders if he should go to fight for Agamemnon and he has many challenges that happen because he does. Some literary devices are characterization, setting, conflict, detail. When Odysseus got stopped by Circe and was turned into a pig and was trapped for a year. Odysseus got trapped by the Cyclops, but did not give up and succeed in escaping. Achilles has to fight against Agamemnon when he tries to kill Briseis. Odysseus gets stopped by the sun god and all of his men die. The authors use characterization to convey that people embark upon quests to journey to a specific place and that they learn not to let distractions interfere with their goals.
When Odysseus enters Aeaea Odysseus gets trapped and his men and him were turned into pigs. ”Odysseus rushes to save his men from the enchantress”(Odyssey 387). This quote shows how Odysseus will not hesitate to save his men and does not let anything get in his way. Odysseus gets stuck in the Cyclops cave and has to escape so he is strapped underneath a sheep and escapes. “So three sheep could convey each man”(Odyssey 381).
