Fern was determined to stop him. “The pig couldn’t help being born small, could it? If I had been very small at birth, would you have killed me? But this is different. A little girl is one thing, a little runty pig is another (White pg.3) After that the father agreed to letting Fern raise the Wilbur. She did just that by feeding him. By the end of the story Mr. Zuckerman took fine care of Wilbur all the rest of his days. Another example of determination is when charlotte is determined to show that Wilbur is not just “some pig.” She helps him from not getting slaughtered and teaches him a lot. She even writes messages in her web to show that he shouldn’t get slaughtered. The last example of determination in charlotte’s web is Wilbur is determined to repay charlotte for everything that he takes care of her kids. He gives away his food to make sure that her kids would come down to where he could take care of

In the criticism, John Gruesser explores the meaning of animal imagery, characteristics, and themes of “Everyday Use.” Gruesser analyzes that each characters Mama, Maggie, and Dee are not only associated with animals, but the story also takes place in a grassland, which is represented as “pasture” in the story: “Some of the comparisons between the women and fauna are highly conventional or purely descriptive: Maggie's memory is linked to that of an elephant; the voice of a pleading Dee sounds as "sweet as a bird"; Dee's hair stands erect "like the wool on a sheep"; and her pigtails are compared to "small lizards disappearing behind her ears". This analysis takes an interesting approach to clarify the characteristics in the story. This emphasizes…
