Charlotte Irrational Or Conservative
Are you a very conscientious, irrational, or rebellious teen? Well, the main character, Charlotte, is highly conscientious. She can be irrational, and she is quite the rebellious type. Throughout the book Charlotte changes from being a conscientious young lady to a irrational and rebellious sailor. At the beginning of the book Charlotte is a proper young lady who knows her right and wrongs, also know as being conscientious. For instance when Mr.Grummage is trying to get the porter to carry her trunk for one shilling she offers to help add another shilling because she knows that a low offer was the reason why he couldn’t get the porter. After the porter offers his hand to Mr.Grummage for the shilling, he then offers his hand towards Charlotte. Mr.Grummage tells her not to, but she gives the porter the other shilling because she promised and it would be wrong to break a promise. …show more content…
We,the readers, know this because when she first sees the round robin in the sailor’s cabin she immediately tells the captain. She wasn’t thinking about what he might do to the crew. Another way to illustrate Charlotte’s irrationalness is when the captain tells his first mate to whip Zachariah. Charlotte repeatedly tells the captain to stop but nothing happens. So she takes matters into her own hands and takes the whip. THe captain takes the whip and starts hitting Zachariah more than he originally planned. Charlotte lightly flicks her wrist and creates a cut on the captain’s face. Charlotte, not thinking about what would happen if she did hit the captain only proves she is irrational. Since Charlotte clearly doesn’t think about hitting the captain, Zachariah is whipped until he is on the brink of death. Finally when Charlotte decides to join the crew she doesn’t even slightly think of what the Captain might think of her decision and of her doing something men would
