Chasing Cars By Sleeping At Last
Music has always been a huge part of in my life. When I was a little girl, my mother would play lullabies through the small stereo in my room to help me fall asleep. Now, I use it in every aspect of my daily routine, whether it be that I’m studying for a test or getting ready in the morning. The thing I love about music is that it’s a universal language. It expresses human feelings and surpasses barriers between cultures that spoken language cannot. No matter who you are or where you’re from, you can connect always connect with others through the magic of music. The following playlist is contains eight songs that I could listen to forever and never grow tired of. Chasing Cars by Sleeping At Last

His song, Hearts On Fire, was first released as a single and subsequently as a part of his fifth studio album, Whispers. It is a nostalgic tune about two people who are in love, but aren’t able to be together because the timing isn’t right for either party. Rosenberg’s soft voice along with his romantic lyrics make this the perfect slow dancing song.

I Will Follow You Into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie
Death Cab for Cutie is a Washington-based alternative rock band that formed in 1997. They are well known for their sentimental, melancholic sound laced with hints of organ and piano. Their song, I Will Follow You Into the Dark, from their album, Plans, was nominated for a 2007 Grammy Award. It plays on the theme of death to define a relationship wherein the narrator promises to follow his lover wherever she goes. This song, while beautiful, will tug at your heartstrings with it’s deeply emotional lyrics that express the notion of true love.

The song I have chosen for my song explication is “I Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz” which depicts a concept to the play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, how beautiful each admirer thinks their love is. A quote from the song relating to this concept is “When I look into your eyes, It's like watching the night sky, or a beautiful sunrise (Mraz 1-3)”. This is saying when Mraz looks into the girl's eyes, it’s like watching the night sky because it is peaceful. Mraz compares his love’s eyes to the sunrise. A quote from the play is “Her eyes in heaven, would through the airy region stream so bright, that birds would sing and think it were not night (Romeo and Juliet, 2.2.20-3)”.…

This is a great deep hitter. The vocals and attitude of the singer gives way for this harder feel of the song. Added to the final drop is a light melody on top of the low beat. Night Terros of 1927 comes to collab, and the result is "We Will Love". The vocals here are strong and emotional, accompanied by smooth music and beat.…

The song “The Last Night” by Skillet has lyrics that speak to many of us at some point, some more than others. There are two speakers/singers in this song you tell the story of someone who seems lost and hopeless and of another someone who is trying to help this person. Many themes throughout the song: hopelessness/loneliness, love/compassion, safety. In the end, we never know what choice is made, if the speaker allows help to come, but there is an overwhelming sense that things are turning towards the better.…

Marie Digby sings with a distinct purity that lacks in Linkin Park’s original, but Linkin Park’s electric passion creates a deeper feeling of regret that is weakly illustrated in Marie Digby’s version. Linkin Park and Marie Digby have differing individual inspirations for performing the song and different interpretations of its lyrics. Linkin Park’s version was released in April of 2007 in the album Minutes to Midnight. This was their first album since 2003 and its contents represented a change in the band’s persona.…

Still considered one of the greatest songs of all time, the Bohemian Rhapsody graced the ears of people around the world in 1975. Not only does it feature musical genius, the lyrics possess considered weight and meaning, something many modern-day “top hits” often lack. Although the song seems extremely depressing to anyone who actually listens to the lyrics, rather than the catchy melody, it features ethos, pathos, and logos, as the narrator pleas for his life after committing a murder. The song opens with the narrator questioning reality, presumably because he murdered someone, and his execution time was nearing. Throughout the song, he and his friends beg for mercy, but eventually he loses hope, in the end, probably faces execution.…
