In Kathleen M. Higgins work The Music of Our Lives she discusses her theory on how music positively benefits us, not only as a culture, but an individuals. She opens her writing by elaborating two very profound quotes on the importance of music, one by Plato and the other Confucius. Both quotes, alone with Higgins words, come to the conclusion that music is a central tool in promoting harmony in the soul and connecting our cross cultural society. Kathleen M. Higgins than goes on to compare the views of Allan Bloom. Despite devoting a chapter in his book Closing of the American Mind to maliciously attacking rock music, he keeps in mind that music still serves a ethical function. Bloom expresses how deeply music sears deep into the souls of…

The categories in the Current Procedural Terminology code set is Category I codes, which is where the most common set of codes are in the main body of CPT, with five digits and no decimals (Valerius et al, 2012). To help one better understand this section of the CPT is to remember that Category I is this most used in healthcare facilities to describe a procedure or service. Furthermore, the procedures or services covered in Category I are in and out patient office visits, which is used for evaluation and management of a new patient(Valerius et al, 2012). Also procedures done with anesthesia on the upper posterior abdominal wall, as well as the removal of indwelling tunneled pleural catheter with cuff; radiologic examination, ACTH stimulation, and Intravenous infusion (Valerius et al, 2012). For example, a 30- year-old woman came into the office for an initial inpatient consultation (99251), which can be found under the Evaluation and Management section of the CPT manual codes 99201-99499(Valerius et al, 2012). Remembering that these codes have no letters in them, and they contain five numbers can be helpful with distinguishing the difference between the other categories.…
The first piece was Intègrales by Edgard Varèse (1883-1965). Edgard Victor Achille Charles Varèse was a French-born composer who spent the greater part of his career in the United States. He was innovator in 20th-century techniques of sound production. According to the www.allmusic.com, his concept of "organized sound" led to many experiments in form and texture. He was constantly on the lookout for new sound sources, and was one of the first to extensively explore percussion, electronics, and taped sounds. Intègrales was composed in 1925. I think this piece is very modern, and is a work for wind, brass, and percussion. I am not really enjoying this piece because it is a little noisy for me. The second piece is Coptic Light, and the composer…
"It was my opinion that Dorothy Pluck, a native of War, was the most beautiful girl in our class or, for that matter, at Big Creek High."(29) Dorothy Plunk was Sonny's first love but she also broke his heart. In October Sky, written by Homer Hickam Jr., Dorothy is a pseudonym for a girl he knew during high school. She is known for her beauty, power, and inexperience.…
“Talking shit about a pretty sunset,” is a song that portrays an overall apathetic outlook on life. The listener can clearly hear the discontent expressed in the words sung and the execution in the music. Thoughts of suicide, phobia of commitment, lack and gain of motivation, fixation and illusions of a better life are all present. Through the complex breaks and climax of the song, tells an emotional story of revelation, realization and self-actualization.…

Growing up is not just about getting older. It is about developing a sense of maturity. In Margaret Hollingsworth’s narrative bibliography Deaf Music, Margaret’s developing maturity is impacted and influenced by key factors and events that occur in her life. She is born deaf, but her independent nature refuses help. She begins her music lessons and excels. Lastly, someone she is close to, her music teacher, dies and Margaret finally learns to accept herself.…
Sometimes, defining folk music is relatively simple. Traditional folk music is anonymously written music from a given culture. It is performed by ’’folk’’- the ordinary people in the…
Othello: Willow SongShakespeare also used songs to establish the character or mental state of the singer. Ariel simply describes himself in “Where the bee sucks.” Iago uses songs to give himself the appearance of a rough soldier. Most significantly, Ophelia’s snatches of folk song demonstrate the regressive breakdown of her personality. (The only other Shakespeare heroine who sings is Desdemona. To overwhelming effect, she sings a popular tune, “The Willow Song”—for which 16th-century words and music exist—just before she is murdered by Othello.) In King Lear Edgar feigns madness by singing snatches of folk song.…
I do believe that I am displaying the idea clearly, but I do believe the idea has more room to grow. I could add more objects such as-birds and rocks. I could also add more detail to the leaves and the swing,…
Another quote that is in chapter 4 on participation that shows how African music is used in a different way to retain a focus on involvement in African music. ''Just as they encourage a musician's confidence in order to enhance possibilities for personal happiness and community realization. They regard participation as an effort to contribute because they believe that involvement will lead to caring and that a participation will find a wat to complement a situation'' (Chernoff 162) If is the musician is preforming the crowd shows appreciating and get involve to boost the performer confident by clapping and joining by singing. An example how I would use to describe the quote is how would someone be in a situation where they had to dance in front…
As midnight struck on January 1, 2000 the world came into a new millennium and the genre of Celtic Punk came into a new age as well. As the millennium kicked off so did a slow down turn of the American Economy and in turn the world economy, which caused high unemployment rates and high prices for essential items. Bands such as Dropkick Murphy’s and Flogging Molly began to make more political statements. Dropkick Murphy’s have multiple political songs such as; “Tomorrow’s Industry”, “We Got the Power” and “Worker’s Song” and Flogging Molly has songs like “Man With No Country” and “Factory Girls” and ‘Drunken Lullabies”. The songs that I have mentioned along with countless others from multiple artist have an underlying political meanings mainly…
