Chemistry in Engineering
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) vested with statutory powers by virtue of the AICTE Act 1987, in pursuance of its clause 10(2) has main objective of bringing about uniformity in the curriculum of engg. in hundreds of technical institutions/universities spreading across the country . With this view, the AICTE has formulated a model curriculum / guidelines /regulations at the level prepared by All India Board of UG Studies in E&T with working groups composed of experts from leading technical institutions/industries. Curriculum revision with in the frame work of AICTE guidelines becomes necessary with regard to availing autonomy/accreditations/allocation of funds etc. Quite rightly, apart from elite technical institutions like IITs, NITs, almost all universalities including technical universities/deemed universities on national level (except 1 or 2 Universities in Kerala.)have adopted AICTE guidelines form the very beginning with regard to curriculum structure in E&S. Apart from offering Physics with lab as a common course to all Engg: branches like EC,EE,CS,ME,CE,IT,IC etc., it has been also offered in higher semesters depending on the requirement in different Engg: branches.

According to AICTE guidelines, the range of total credits should be invariably between 5-10% for Humanities & Social Science and between 15-20% for Basic Sciences including Mathematics.

The existing curriculum of B Tech Chemistry is compatible with the model curriculum of AICTE. Considering the suggestion of our Principal I have modified the contents after thorough consultations and discussions with the Chemistry experts in Engineering colleges. I am forwarding the same to you.

The existing curriculum provides only 2 hour for theory and 1 hour lab (with total 4 credits) against 2 hours and 2 hour lab (with total credits 8)as per AICTE guidelines. Thus less weightage is being given to Basic Sciences and Humanities Social Sciences in the present curriculum

Here are some questions about the elements, their properties, and periodicity. In each case, the correct answer is the name of an element (one of the two given). Write the answer in the appropriate space at the right, placing the first letter in the first blank. There are more than enough blanks to fit either element name, so the number of letters in the name cannot be used as a clue. When the puzzle is complete, the Periodic Law will be displayed in the highlighted column.( by Bronwyn J. Nelson, Fairfield High School, Fairfield, Ohio.)…

To everyone in America probably the most used exercise in personal fitness is simply running. It is easy, simple, and extremely beneficial to do. With the increase of people who run professionally, recreationally, and for fitness a new issue as arose. That issue is the debate between running while wearing specially made running shoes or taking the “natural” approach and running barefoot or with minimalist running shoes. I recently read an article discussing, with evidence, this issue. The article gives reasons why barefoot running can benefit you better than shod running, but also that it is not for everyone.…
