Purpose:
Your task is to research and become an “expert” on a (school-appropriate) chemistry topic of your choice. You will write a research paper on your topic; present your research to the class; and create a supplemental piece of work that will aid in your presentation.
Grading:
Your final project is 180 points – roughly three test grades! This project will be counted towards your 3rd quarter grade.
Turning in your project:
All students will turn in the following components: - A HARD COPY of research paper (do NOT email it!)
A HARD COPY print-out of your PowerPoint presentation slides
Your creative piece
On the day you present: An electronic copy of your PowerPoint presentation (either on a flash drive, or emailed to Ms. H well in advance.)
ANYTHING THAT IS NOT TURNED IN AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED, AND WILL RESULT IN A “ZERO”! NO EXCUSES!!! (If you have an excused absence, your project is due the day you return to class.)

Instructions for Project Components:
1. Research Paper (90 pts.)
You will compose a typed research paper for your project.
PAPER REQUIREMENTS:
Title page (title, your name, date)
LENGTH: 4-5 pages (not including title page or works cited), double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, 1’’ margins.
Your research should include a MINIMUM of 10 sources, with internal citations throughout your paper.
Ex: “Nuclear power uses the isotope uranium-235 (Johnson 203).”
Do not use block quotes.
Works cited page included at the end of your paper, in MLA or APA format.
A good citations reference guide: http://library.duke.edu/research/citing/within/mla.html
I WILL check for plagiarization, which will result in a severe grade deduction or possibly a “zero” on the paper. (Content needs to be in your OWN words – copying a source and citing it is still plagiarizing in Ms. H’s class!)
