Even though child abuse is not fully recognized as a criminal act it does effect children both physically and mentally; to prevent child abuse talk with the authorities. “Child abuse is any recent act or failure to act, on the part of an parent or caretaker” (Peterson 8). Child abuse is broken down into four types of abuse. The four types of child abuse are physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect. There are a lot of causes of child abuse. Sometimes the effect it has on a child can be permanent. Child abuse can have life long consequences. The child abuse problem gained international awareness when national laws were created in Great Britain in1884 to protect children from cruel treatment, and when the national society for the Prevention of Cruelty to children originated that same year. “child abuse became a powerful social issue in 1980s, generating intense media workloads for child abuse agencies ( Child Abuse in the 1980s 1). There are a lots of ways to prevent this if the abused child or another adult go tell the authorities. The first and most commonly child abuse is physical abuse. “ Physical abuse is non-accidental infliction injury to a child this can also be called battered child syndrome (Child Abuse 2). Physical abuse is also an injury to a child by punching, beating, kicking, biting, or other wise harming the child. This loss control is usually caused by factors that have nothing to with a child, such as a job or personal stresses, loneliness, depression, lack of a support system, psychiatric disorders, or substance abuse. Most times the abuser is a family member or caretaker of the child. Physical abuse also can be scenario which involves a parent or caretaker who loses control and lashes out on a child . Some parents that are stressed can come home and take out their stress on the child. If one sees a child with unexplained marks or bruises on the skin, these are signs of physical abuse and the authorities should

    If you were placed in a position were your life was put into danger would you risk escaping? This question was asked by Jaycee Dugard everyday during her eighteen year being held captive. In her memoir A Stolen Life, Jaycee Dugard explains to us why she didn't try to run from her abductor Philip Garrido even though she was given so many chances to do so. In most situations it is very difficult for victims to escape their abusers control. In the past it was near impossible for victims of abduction to escape safely on their own. With the realization that "We have seen a significent increase in the number of thru the means of strangers, family or friends" (Amber Alert 1). It has been easier to help child abduction victims with systems like the Amber Alert system, yet it is still difficult for the victims to leave on their own. Abuse victims along with Dugard also struggle with gaining the strength to leave. Years after Dugard was rescued she says "You must find your voice and not be afraid to speak up" (Dugard 148). Something she regrets doing while being held captive. In the end the claim that victims of abuse should take more responsibility to escaoe their abusers control should be challenges because of the difficulty to escape their abusers control and to gain the strength to leave.…
