Interventions become even more effective when parents become involved, as the more time spent on an intervention, the more the child will progress and therefore independence will grow. It is important for children with ASD to have things such as social stories to help explain and prepare them for situations, therefore giving them examples of appropriate behaviour for this situation. Another method often used in schools is TEACCH, which stands for â€oeTreatment and Education of Autistic and communication handicapped children―. This intervention is very involved and uses words, images, symbols and visual aids to help a child to communicate and cope with every day events, as well as displaying a very clear start, middle and end of activities. For children with ASD it is important to provide a space/class that is calm and structured, meaning that each activity has a clear space, and is labelled with either a word, picture or symbol to help the children identify that specific activities will take place within certain areas, and to aid the use of equipment with minimal support.
