Child Malnutrition in Africa
Introduction Many children in Africa do not get enough food to eat. They do not grow well, they become ill, many of them lose their lives or do not grow up as they should.
Felicity S.K and Ann B. say that a child who doesn’t get enough food to cover his nutrients needs is malnourished. Undernourished children luck energy and protein so they develop protein energy malnutrition or PEM.

Definition of terms
The world malnutrition usually means PEM (protein energy malnutrition).
Protein energy malnutrition is a potentiality fatal of body depletion disorder.it is the leading cause of death in children in developing counties.
Also Malnutrition can be defined as a condition resulting from inadequate diet or from inability to absorb or metabolize nutrients.
Felicity S.K defines Nutrition as the study of foods and how our bodies use them.
Anemia is occurred when one doesn’t have enough red blood cells in the body.
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder marked by malnutrition and weight loss occurring mostly in young women.
Bariatric means treatment of overweight.
Calorie is the amount of heat energy needed to raise the temperature of one kilogram of water 1oc.
Kwashiorkor is severe malnutrition in children primarily caused by a protein poor diet.
Marasmus is severe malnutrition in children caused by a diet lacking in calories as well as protein.
Allergies are abnormal reactions of the immune system that occur in response to otherwise harmless substances.
Micronutrients are essential elements that are needed only in small quantities for example; zinc, copper, selenium, iodine, magnesium, iron, cobalt, and chromium.
Macronutrients are the main nutrients that provide the body with energy and help growth. They include carbohydrates, protein and fats.
