There are several characteristics of the abuse that can determine how the parents will approach the prosecution. One of the characteristics that could defeat the parents or make the parent unwilling to follow through with the prosecution is if the abuser was a parent or a close family member. In a case like this most of the time the family will want to keep thangs quiet and pretend that nothing happened. Some parents will even deny that it happened and clime the child is just throwing a tantrum. Though that is the case with some parents others in the same place will fight harder out of guilt for not seeing what happened was and protecting their child. Some parents are so emotionally distraught that they are unable to be any support to the child or the prosecution process. There are so many possible reasons that a parent will be emotional devastated in this way, one of the most common reasons is that a parent is a victim of child sexually abuse. In these cases parents are not only hit by the tram of their own child's abuse but also made to relive their own past trauma. This could affect the prosecution in one of two ways.
