Child Soldiers After War Essay
Have you ever wondered what happens to child soldiers after the war ends? People debate on whether they should be postulated for committing war crimes. I think they shouldn’t be prosecuted for what they have done as kids because they were fighting in the war. I personally think that the child soldiers shouldn’t be sent to jail.

One of the reasons why child soldiers shouldn’t be sent to jail is because they become brainwashed. They might go into the war knowing right from wrong because they were taught that, but going into the war can change that. One way they do to brainwash the kids is by giving them drugs. In the article it even says; “They are also forced into fighting through drugs and alcohol.” (Child Soldiers: Victims or Perpetrators). Kids live with the drugs and the alcohol and don’t forget about the killings. Enough for a little kid can make them think it’s normal and become use to it. In the same article it even says; “The drugs, often cocaine mixed with gunpowder, brainwash children to the point where they would rather not escape from the horror unraveling around them.” (Child Soldiers: Victims or Perpetrators). Putting cocaine and gunpowder together makes the drug even stronger and even

Sometimes they have no say if they want to go or not, and when they do have a choice they go because they think they’ll have protection, food, and a place to stay. “Children need be the victims of war if there is no will to prevent it. Experiences in dozens of conflicts confirm that extraordinary actions have been taken and can be taken to protect and provide for children.” (State of the World’s Children, UNICEF 1996). Your mind is unsteady and lightheaded from the drugs you were given. When you look out of the trench you see children only eight years of age marching into a village and burning everything down to a smoldering ash. Some children do it for protection others doing it for their religion. Hundreds of lives were taken when the village burned down, and it was all at the hands of children. Child soldiers have been in existence for years. People believe that child soldiers should be punished for their crimes and put into jail, but why? Why would you put a little one in jail when they were told what they were doing was right? These minors have not been given the proper chance to live a life to the fullest of their potential.…

They have to change their mind and body, to go to reality of the real world, instead of life in war. In the article Should child soldiers be prosecuted for their crimes?, the report stated how children need to be held accountable for the crimes they commit by more sufficient and appropriate methods, other than incarceration, empowering them to acknowledge their past and the crimes the execute. (should, 14). Rather than putting children in jail for murder, they should be rehabilitated so they can recognize what they did in the past was wrong. Because just putting them in prison for something they wouldn’t recognize was wrong wouldn’t be helping anyone; it would just be putting a short term solution on a long term problem. In the article Child Soldiers, the author gives “Demobilization and Reconciliation program, often abbreviated TTR and DDR, are far better ways of helping children recover and reintegrate back into society and out of war. The problem with prosecution is that it poses far too many problems” (Child, 18). A child from war needs to be pointed in the right direction instead of them having to dwell on what they did. The adolescent can turn their life around and focus on good things, other than situations of…

Child soldiers are victims, not perpetrators, so they should be granted amnesty. Though to some it may look like these kids are choosing this life, in reality, most aren’t. They either have to join those forces or die, which is terrifying for any child to imagine. Not only that, but they were drugged to kill, making them forget how bad it was that they were doing. And to some of them, that army was the only family that they have, providing better living conditions than those out on the streets. Which is why these children are victims of this terrible event and should be legally forgiven for what they were forced to do.…

Once more, the three main icons key to helping child soldiers is we firstly need to be considerate and not let them wander off freely. Secondly, research must be done to find out how they feel about killing and what's going on around them. Are the passionate about such events, or do they despise them. And finally we must clarify what kind of state they’re in. Meaning the kind of schools in which they have been taught in. Are they being yelled at by a general, or simply being taught in a school. Crucial evidence may lead to more investigations and might someday end child…

In 2010, there were over 200,000 children fighting in wars. 20% of those kids, were a part of government groups. After the war, the government turned around and said those kids need to be prosecuted. How would you feel if you were forced to fight and traumatized for life, then have to go on trial for something you never wanted to do in the first place? According to the United Nations along with other human rights groups, a child soldier is considered a child who is 18 years or younger fighting on the front line (Child Recruitment pg.1). Child soldiers are found all over the world except for North America. If these children ever get out of war, some may have to get prosecuted for the things they did while completely brainwashed. That is unfair considering most were forced into this terrible matter. Once the child soldiers get out of the situation they are in, they should be sent to rehabilitation centers to…
