Childhood Memory Research Paper
Reading has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Young kids were excited to get a new toy or go on a trip to Toys R Us but me I would be content with a new book or was taken to a local bookstore. As a kid, I would love getting read all types of books like Miss Nelson is Missing, The Hungry Caterpillar and Love You Forever. These are some of the many books that made me happier than getting any new action figure. When it was time to go to bed, there were two books that would have to be read to me in order for me to fall asleep: Good Night Moon and Corduroy. Something about those two were comforting to me and were able to put me out like a light and make it okay for me to sleep in the dark. Reading was something I learned to …show more content…

My grandmother didn’t believe in wasting money on toys, she believed in all the entertainment a book had to offer. So she brought me to a book store that was especially for children and told me to pick any book that I wanted. Oh My God was it the hardest thing in the world when there were thousands and thousands of books. Walking through several books this red book, with a yellow title and a bear with green overalls missing a button caught my attention. I know they say don’t judge a book by its cover but something just drew my young mind to this book. After Grandmother buying it she started to read it to me which I made her more than three times before I went to sleep. I think reading is something you learn to love or hate at a young …show more content…

When I was a preteen, my parents thought that reading as a good habit needed to be fostered from my childhood. Therefore, I had bedtime stories since I was three years old. My parents would prepare different stories and read for me everyday. The books at that time always had more cartoons than characters, and my parents would teach me to recognize characters in the books.…

Reading is my life. It’s my escape from the world around me. I love getting lost in a story about monsters and myths, or a Cinderella gone wrong. If I didn’t draw as much as I did, I’d probably be the anti-social bookworm in the back, like in all those cliche teenage love stories. It’s actually quite surprising to see how many people dislike books, there’s nothing wrong with a little reading every once and awhile. But who am I to judge? I wasn’t a very big reader myself until maybe two years ago. Of course, that leads to the first reason why I enjoy reading so much.…

A lot of books I can remember reading made my childhood so great. Growing up as a child, going to the library was one of my most favorite hobbies to do. My mother would always take me there and she would read to me anything from Junie B. Jones to Arthur books, Dr. Seuss, Charlottes’ Web. Dr. Seuss was one of my most favorites. Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham will always be a childhood favorite. At the library, my mother would read word by word very slowly to make sure I’d understand what she was reading. Age 3-5, I would take part in a summer program at the library that involves reading. The volunteers who were…

In my 17 years of being alive I have never like reading. There is so many words and I have never been able to comprehended them. Out of the few books I have liked I noticed there are qualities that make me enjoy them. Good books are relatable. I believe in a good book you should be able to connect to the writer or the topic on some level. Good books also make you think hard about your life or the topic. If I can relate to the book I am more likely to enjoy it just for that fact. The novel Fast Girl by Suzy Favor Hamilton is an outstanding book it is relatable, has a sympathetic protagonist, and it has a dramatic plot twist. (126)…

The first books I ever started reading were Winnie the Pooh and Dr Suess books. When I was young my parents were really good about getting me started with reading different books and for a long time I loved reading, as long as it was books I got to choose and enjoyed reading myself. Once I got further along in school and they started mandating what books we had to read I got to the point where I didn’t find reading enjoyable any longer. I didn’t like most of the books my teachers were picking for us to read so I felt like I had to force myself to read them and it caused me to even stop reading books outside of school…

The summer following my sixth grade year was full of kick the can, capture the flag, ghost in the graveyard, and many more games played with the neighborhood kids. Some games got out of hand at times. As I tried to tag Conner to stop him from scoring in our little game of capture the ball, I seemed to forget I had a tree in the middle of my yard and I ran straight into it. Once during a competition of “America’s Got Talent” Logan mooned all of us, leaving us girls petrified. Then one hot summer night I was running the bases as we continued our game of whiffle ball while Trenton started to pee in the open onto our homemade bases made of rocks... he didn’t receive chocolate chip cookies with the rest of us that night. Out of all our eventful times the one I treasure most is when we set up our own little camp site. We found two tents and connected them both in my backyard. We slept outside, one tent for the boys and one for the girls. Eventually the boys got scared by a gunshot we heard in the distance so they joined us but were kept at a distance by my mother who kept an eye on us that night. Long games of truth or dare were…

Reading was fun when it was newly acquired skill. I was excited to read to my parents when they returned home from work. I remember reading my favorite book series by R.L. Stein (Goosebumps) while in the second and third grades. The series was about hauntings that affected teenagers. I remember my favorite book in the series was Piano Lessons Can Be Murder. I could relate to that because at the time, I was taking piano lessons.…

At my usual bedtime, 8:00 PM, I would not go to sleep; I would stay up reading as long as I could keep my eyelids open. When my parents would come and check on me, they would tell me to turn off my light and go to sleep, but after they left again, I would just continue to read. After several times of insubordination my parents would get upset and take my lamp that was on my nightstand. I always found that peculiar and a bit contradicting. I would think, “How can someone get frustrated for doing something intellectual, like reading?” Often parents have to yell at their children to read, and mine were telling me to stop. Eventually my parents realized it was contradicting to hold me back from reading. I took that as an advantage, and I read books for hours. I would get little to no sleep, but it was was always completely worth it.…

Books are precious pieces that improve one’s knowledge and help define one’s personality by relating themselves to characters within the text. As Vladimir Nabokov said in Good Readers and Good Writers “The reader should identify himself or herself with the hero or heroine.”(Nabokov, 973) I always believed that by reading a book you become one with yourself by somehow feeling all the problems of the characters and become completely absorbed in their world, therefore feeling like you have a purpose as you read.…

In third grade my teacher started reading a book aloud to my small, obnoxious , excited class. “Today we’re starting a new book called Snot Stew.” The class scribbled colors on a sheet the teacher gave us while she reads, I worked on my late math, passionately wishing for a coloring sheet. I enjoy the book so much I get off task on my math. This memory made me more interested in books because I didn’t know then that such books with that amount of creativity existed.…
