Children may first experience stress/anxiety as early as infancy. Really? How? Everything is done for them. When we think about infants, it’s crying that comes to mind. While crying is the main form of communication for infants, it is a form of stress/anxiety. When symptoms of stress/anxiety are displayed, children need to be given or shown tools to use to alleviate the stress/anxiety. Some things that can be done to help relieve stress anxiety are: provide a safe and comfortable environment, show warmth and love, encourage the child to talk about their feelings, keep child informed of changes that may be taking place, and come up with ways or things that the child can do themselves to relieve stress/anxiety. Such as physical activity, a hobby or activity they enjoy, listen to music or even reading a book. Stress/anxiety has no set criteria as to who, when, what, how, or why an individual may experience or suffer from it. Children are no different.
