Commuters pose a challenge to town planners for various reasons, although they account for a small percentage of travelers. Commuting takes place in two faces: the morning rush hour and the afternoon rush hour. This means that during these phases, the transport system undergoes much stress because of the spike in the number of users. This can be credited to the fact that people live and work in different places and that there is a uniform work time in the country. Work starting at 8-9 a.m. and ending at 5-6 p.m., this means that commuters have some special needs and requirement in so far as traveling is concerned. So, they require speedy and dependent transportation. In addition to this, there is the growing need to keep the commuters informed…

I have had the opportunity to visit the Financial District BIA on Tuesday, November 10th, 2015 at approximately 8:00AM and again at 1:00pm. During both of these times the area was trafficked, more heavily so at 8:00AM. The most used forms of transportation in the area are subways with several stops in the area and the GO Transit rail system located at Union Station. GO Transit esimates that an average of 195,000 passengers use their rail service daily to and from Union Station. ("What is GO?")…
Introduction The speed of traffic in urban areas has been one concern amongst walking pedestrians, and more specifically walking pedestrians on stretches of Woody Hayes Drive and Olentangy River Road. To gauge whether or not traffic control is necessary, vehicles are timed at a specific interval to give a range of varying speeds; these speeds could then be compared to the set speed limit on the road. The purpose of this experiment was to determine if cars on Woody Hayes Drive needed additional traffic control to reduce speeding.…

Moreover, a substantiated argument can be made in favor of the commercializing process. In regards to Gallery Place/ Chinatown particularly, recent decades have shown economic growth and a reduction of poverty in that specific area, as well as a dramatic shift in the socio-economic class and diversity of the population. For example, two decades ago the majority of Chinatown’s population identified as Chinese or of Asian descent, while today “most of the neighborhood’s residents are young professionals with reasonably-sized disposable incomes” (Abrams). Though this socio-economic shift in the population represents an increase in racial diversity and wealth distribution, it at the same time signifies a dramatic reduction in the traditional socio-economic…
Sao Paulo is not only the largest city in Brazil but it is also one of the top countries in the world with the worst traffic. There is a population of about 18 million people with about 6.3 million cars 650,000 motor cycles, 35,000 taxis and 17,000 busses. To make things worse there are also 1,000 new cars added a day. There have been traffic jams stretching up to 293 km of traffic. Naturally, with numbers like these there is bound to be some traffic. However, there are also 19,000 trucks that pass through Sao Paulo every day. These trucks cause damage to roads and therefore, cause a chain of reaction ending in increased traffic.…
The main reason why I chose this topic on traffic related issues in Melbourne is because it is an everyday hassle for one to encounter traffic congestion thus there is a sense of urgency that alternatives and strategies must be implemented to alleviate the situation.…
In the city, traffic is everywhere. You have to wait at stop signs and stop lights for a longer period of time due to the high volume of people. “By the Texas Transportation Institute 's reckoning, the cities having the worst traffic problems are: Los Angeles, Calif., Long Beach, Calif., Santa Ana, Calif., San Francisco, Calif., Oakland, Calif., Washington, D.C., Atlanta, G.A., Houston, T.X., Dallas, T.X., Fort Worth, T.X., Arlington, T.X., Chicago, I.L., Detroit, M.I., Riverside, San Bernardino, Calif., Orlando, Fla., San Jose, Calif., and San Diego, Calif. California has a decided edge in winning the award for the worst traffic, since five of its cities (or city regions) make the top 12 list. Several of the cities mentioned are well known as trucking, rail, air and sometimes sea hubs for logistics. The convergence of services taxes the infrastructure.” (http://www.forbes.com/2006/02/06/worst-traffic-nightmares-cx_rm_0207traffic.html)…
Los Angeles, California is a city where I feel most comfortable. The weather is perfect for people live in. Even though it is usually hot around noon during the summer, the temperature would cool down at night. Most of times I do not even need to use air condition during the night. However, the traffic is very bad in Los Angeles, especially during morning and afternoon rush hours. One time I left school to meet up my friends for dinner. The traffic was so bad that I was late for over two hours. The traffic in Los Angeles reminds me of my hometown in China. Oddly, I feel very comfortable when I am stuck in traffic. Like many places in China, Los Angeles has a large number of populations. There…
Antonio, a Venetian merchant, complains to his friends, Salarino and Solanio, that a sadness has overtaken him and dulled his faculties, although he is at a loss to explain why. Salarino and Solanio suggest that his sadness must be due to his commercial investments, for Antonio has dispatched several trade ships to various ports. Salarino says it is impossible for Antonio not to feel sad at the thought of the perilous ocean sinking his entire investment, but Antonio assures his friends that his business ventures do not depend on the safe passage of any one ship. Solanio then declares that Antonio must be in love, but Antonio dismisses the suggestion.…
During exercise 1, our group have observed the traffic conditions on Clementi Avenue 6 from AYE into the road section in the video. At the same time, we measured the number of the vehicle on the road by 5 minutes interval, four lanes and different types of vehicles. We decided a dummy line on separate lane to count the number of vehicles as well as categorize the vehicles by six types as motorcycle, car, van, bus, goods truck and truck. Through the data processing after observation, we made some tables, bar and pie graphs to demonstrate the data clearly. And we can tell the different traffic conditions among different lanes and vehicles easily from those charts. The tables contain the detailed data of the different types of vehicles that passed the dummy line within 30 minutes. The bar graphs demonstrate traffic flow of separate types of vehicles with 5-minute interval in 30 minutes. The pie graphs show the percentage of different types of vehicles within 30 minutes. The arrangement of the lane number is showed as following picture.…
One example of this is that, among young professionals, traffic problems appear to cause the most concern in Macau according to a survey by Macau Polytechnic University (Zhidong). Macau has a small geographic territory of 27.5 square kilometers. And with Macau’s popular tourism industry, transportation and the increase of vehicles quickly becomes a problem. In 2004 Macau had 142,583 motor vehicles and one could assume that this number has drastically increased since this study (Zhidong). There are certain areas of Macau’s roads known to drivers as “black spots” which are areas that indicate bad road planning. Furthermore, traffic lights are infamous for imperfect timing, increasing the chances of accidents and making pedestrians especially prone to accidents and injury (Zhidong). Although Macau has seen financial success, the government seems to be doing little to improve the human and physical environment regarding traffic and transportation issues. However, the failure of the government to heed the needs of its citizens goes much further than just…
This research paper is part of my course requirement Eng105 that was assigned to me for this fall semester 2007.The research paper is based on the most happening concern of Dhaka city- Traffic congestion. The research paper titled “Alternatives to control traffic jams in Dhaka city” is done with the constant help and sincere contribution of many people. First of all I would take this platform to thank my Course instructor Ms. Melissa Hussain; she had been a constant support and directed us the various steps that are required in completion of this project. Next the people who patiently corresponded to my questionnaire and also showed a great interest to my research work. The North South University librarian, who tried to provide me with all the possible articles available to them regarding my topic. My fellow class members who read my initial drafts and gave comments on them so, I could make the necessary corrections before I submit the fair research work.…
