Research Paper: Christian Doppler
Physical Science
3/23/14

Christian Andreas Doppler was born November 29, 1803 Salzburg, Austria. Doppler’s Father was a stonemason. Doppler studied physics at Vienna University of Technology and University of Vienna. In 1847 he accepted a professorship in mathematics, physics, and mechanics at the Academy of Mines and Forests in the Slovakian town Banska Stiavnica. In 1850 he was appointed head of the Institute for Experimental Physics at the University of Vienna. The Doppler Effect- founded in 1842 the Doppler effect taught that sound waves would have a higher frequency if the source was moving away the observer.
Doppler revolutionized this principle which does not apply to sound, as time went on people started applying this principle to light. In which another scientist Edwin Hubble used it to determine that the universe was still expanding.
The most common way we still hear about Doppler is how meteorologist apply his principles to find out where storms are coming from, and the type of force that is carried with them. The Doppler radar is still in use today worldwide, all from the effects of Doppler, also his first invention of the Doppler Effect.
Doppler’s most famous invention contributed in many different ways in modern science today, especially Aviation (Weather Patterns, Other Planes), Nautical (Submarines, Fishing boats), Police Radar Guns (Speed Traps), Weather Patterns, Medical Imaging (Blood Flow)

Christian Andreas Doppler is a man that not to many people talk about but is a man that had a big contribution on our society today. He invented the technology we use in so many ways today. Without Doppler’s contribution to science we wouldn’t know how to or even need meteorologists to tell us what the weather is going to be like because wouldn’t have that kind of ability. I think Doppler deserves more reverence and recognition for his work and knowledge he blessed us with. He will always have

The telescope was used since at least 1590, but Galileo was one of the first to use it on the heavens. He found observational evidence against traditional views as to craters on moon, phases of Venus and moons of Jupiter, to name a few. His main impact is being an aggressive popularizer of Copernican viewpoint and satirist of Aristotelian physics. Again, we go back to Aristotle. His concepts of instantaneous motion led to the development of Calculus around 1665-1666.…

A Doppler radar is an important tool used to measure the velocity and direction of a moving object. The Radar actually has transmitters that produce and release electromagnetic waves in the form of microwaves or radio waves. These waves are sent out and when they reach something they reflect or bounce back to the source or transmitter. It is noticed that when the waves are reflected back they are much weaker but the machines are able to amplify them to get an accurate reading from them. This process determines and measures the distance of the object its reading.…

But his plan was changed when he realized that he had no interest in theology, but did in mathematics. He also got his Master of Philosophy at University of Basel. Euler was influenced by his father’s friend, Johann Bernoulli, who was a Swiss mathematician in the Bernoulli known for educating Euler. He persuaded Euler’s father to allow him to pursue his mathematics career, which was a very important action in history. Because Euler following his passion for math he was able to go on and make contributions in nearly all math’s, including number theory, trigonometry, infinitesimal calculus, algebra, and geometry. Although he grew up in Rehen he moved to St. Petersburg Russia and spent most of his adult life Berlin,…

    Doppler Effect

Doppler first proposed the effect in 1842 in the monograph Über das farbige Licht der Doppelsterne und einige andere Gestirne des Himmels - Versuch einer das Bradleysche Theorem als integrierenden Teil in sich schliessender allgemeiner Theorie (On the coloured light of the binary refracted stars and other celestial bodies - Attempt of a more general theory including Bradley's theorem as an integral part).[1] The hypothesis was tested for sound waves by the Dutch scientist Christoph Hendrik Diederik Buys Ballot in 1845. He confirmed that the sound's pitch was higher as the sound source approached him, and lower as the sound source receded from him. Hippolyte Fizeau discovered independently the same phenomenon on electromagnetic waves in 1848 (in France, the effect is sometimes called "effet Doppler-Fizeau"). It is often overlooked that in Doppler's publications (and also Einstein's in his discussion of the Doppler effect) he explicitly acknowledges that his formulae are only approximate since he made several mathematical approximations in his derivation. Doppler's derivation is repeated more or less verbatim in most modern textbooks but often…
