Martyrdom and persecution among various religions has been and still is a critical issue all over the world. It is something that happened a long time ago and it is something that still happens today. People should be able to believe and worship whomever or whatever they choose, without having to worry about being executed for worshipping in the wrong place at the wrong time.
What is a Christian Martyr? A Christian martyr is an individual who is killed for believing, loving, and following Jesus. We get the word martyr from the Greeks. The word martyr means to simply be a witness to something that was personally observed. In one of Jesus’s last conversations, he told his disciples, “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." The first known Christian martyr was St. Stephen. He was accused of blasphemy. In
Lesson 1, we can learn what it means to be truly committed to the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus died for us so we should not be afraid to die for him. We should all be proud to follow and believe in Him.
