Christians Make A Differences In The Environment
"Go Green," the new slogan that promotes saving the environment is being heard everywhere. As I turn on my television or pass a billboard on the highway. The message is loud and clear that the earth is desperately crying out for us humans to start taking care of our domain. According to Green Living, "Going green is about conserving our resources, finding alternative energies, and innovative ways to keep our rivers and oceans cleaner and our landfills smaller. (Scheid, 2009) Christians can make a difference in the environment if all the churches in the United States rallied together to promote environmental restoration. I'm aware that our environmental issues are extreme; however, if you have a large organization such as the church pushing the cause to its congregants, I believe we will begin to see a difference in those who make conscious decisions that will attribute to the restoration of our environment. Targeting individuals and families through the …show more content…
Many churches these days do video announcements that are very affective because they are visual. I think it would be an asset to incorporate visual examples of these individual churches making an effort to bring restoration to the environment. They could use these video announcements to educate their members, teach them the importance of conserving energy and lessening pollution and give their congregants specific tips on how they can save energy with updated appliances. The churches could also speak with some appliance stores that may offer discounts to their church members in hopes that they would switch over to these energy saving appliances. Churches could avoid using paper as much as possible by using their website or phone tree to contact their congregants. They could also dedicate a wall within the church which displays information about environmental restoration as well as giving information on their

Individuals are helping the environment through travel, at home, at work, and in their consumer lifestyles. While traveling they can use other means of transportation or carpool, and at home people are turning off electronics when not in use and overall reducing resource consumption. At work, similar to being at home, turn off electronics when not in use, but also make sure your employer and co-workers are informed of ways they can help. Consumables can be harder as they are things that cost money, where everything previously was a cost-free initiative. Individuals can use reusable bags, change to a more eco-friendly diet, and buy consumables that were produced with environmental standards in mind.…

What are you doing to help our environment? Are you recycling because it positively impacts the environment, or are you recycling because it is trendy? According to Alex Williams essay, “Buying into the Green Movement,” companies are turning an environmental movement into a fashion statement. Many people are only buying eco-friendly products because television and magazines advertise the movement as a new trend. The eco-friendly fashion statement is actually making consumers buy more, which defeats the purpose of conserving our planet. Although it is important to buy and pay attention to economically efficient products, sometimes less is actually more. The essay argues that many people are not cutting back on their usage of day-to-day items. William’s essay strongly shows his passion about the subject. Williams is able to persuade his audience to consume less through his use of logos by stating facts, using ethos to…

Man inhabitant of the blue planet that filled with wonders and mysteries. Every single organism live in the earth has its own purpose and meaning. Every creature has designed uniquely by the Creator. Leslie Marmon Silko writes in Landscape, History, and the Pueblo Imagination, “The ancient Pueblo people called the earth the Mother Creator of all things in the world” (336). The Creator formed the universe out of nothing; He made the sun, the moon, the start, man and woman, animals, plants, and everything on the earth. Steven Bouma-Prediger writes in Is Christianity Responsible for the Ecological Crisis?, “God made a covenant not only with humans but also with our non-human neighbors- indeed, with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you, as many as come out of the ark.” (315). Bouma-Prediger acknowledges God as the Creator created the creation. Man and the…

When we care for our environment, it is not only glorifying God, it is in a sense taking care of ourselves. When we have clean air to breath, clean facilities to go to, and clean minds we can in return glorify God and live a healthy full life, which our God has intended for us. Faith and holiness can be facilitated if we the people, take care of the environment that God has created and given us. As Christians we need to take a stand and honor God, by taking care of what he has trusted us with, and be obedient. We need to stop procrastinating and start preserving the environment, in a way that will please and honor the Lord.…

Every day our environment is ravaged by emissions, littered on by billions of people, and carelessly treated with unlimited sources. Environmentalists like Bill Mckibben, scholar at Middle berry College and author of the article “The Challenge to Environmentalism,” believe that “the relationship between people and the natural world has been largely taken for granted for most of human history” (500). Although environmentalism to some people mean driving less, establishing solar panels, recycling and more; Kate Zernike, reporter for the New York Times and author of “Green, Greener, Greenest,” informs us about college campus’s taking shortcuts in claiming they’re “environmentally friendly.” There are environmentalists and deans attempting to make a difference in our environment, but Michael Pollan – a professor of science and environmental journalism at the University of California – asks the question, why bother with trying to cure climate change? Our Environment is an important aspect of human lives, and should be taken care of like our own children. Our concepts of environmentalism, the way we conduct ourselves in everyday life, and our battle with climate change and environmentalism economically are all factors of a hazardous home we will soon live in.…

Religious environmentalism is based on the concept that the current environmental crisis is, at its core, a crisis of values. The idea has been around for centuries but may have gone unnoticed. Ecological crises including invasions, wars, droughts, famines, floods, and hurricanes have impacted environments all over the world. Naturally, faith has been used as a mechanism to adapt to ecological crises by using faith and hope as rebuilding mechanisms. As a result, many deeply religious individuals, from all across the globe, are coming to the realization that a deeper understanding of environmentalism can provide a refreshing relationship with the earth that falls in line with their beliefs. Moreover, religious environmentalism has been hailed as a “diverse, vibrant, global, movement of ideas and activism that roots the general environmental message in spiritual framework” (Gottlieb 231). Both religion and ecology complement each other, while “ecology” stands for environmentalism and “religion” is the force that can inspire and mobilize it. A religious group that is increasingly adapting religious environmentalism is Christianity.…

What is green? Well, it is a secondary color made from the yellow and blue and can be presented in different tints and shades. Green is also the color of the grass and the leaves on the trees you see every day when you go for a walk in the park. However, in today’s society green has a whole new meaning than just a color. “Going Green” means do whatever that can be done to help the earth become a cleaner and healthier planet for both humans and animals to live on. Because of this Jacquelyn Ottman wrote an article called “We are all green consumers”, anyhow, I do not believe she wrote a valid article. In the article the author used untrustworthy…

People say that little eco-friendly acts, such as picking up litter and recycling, can make a difference. Though this may be true, it is not enough. [p] We all have to do our parts to preserve the environment and put an end to the pollution, or at least to control it and keep it to a minimum. Try to get involved in activities that will make leaps and bounds, not steps, of progress towards ending pollution and preserving nature. [p] That’s much more productive than throwing a bottle into a recycling bin. If you want to take it a step further, donate to a group dedicated to saving the environment. You can support them in the goals that you share with them.…

To say that everyone will “Go Green” is definitely an inaccurate assumption. The first step to avoid depleting our natural resources is the minor changes we make throughout our daily routine. I believe that the lack of awareness and intelligence are the culprits to blame. Everyday parents work towards shaping the future of their children’s lives but why is it that they are never concerned with how their environment will be once their children have reached adulthood? Although “Going Green” involves more effort; it is our responsibility to make the generation and future generations aware of the consequences they will render if we all choose convenience over intelligence.…
