For my project, I decided to make a combination of a diorama and a 3D collage, or "Book in a Basket". Inside the basket are objects that represent and are symbolic of Christopher's character. The film represents Christopher's unique mind. He compares his memory to film by saying "My memory is like a film." "And when people ask me to remember something I can simply press Rewind and Fast Forward …show more content…
and Pause like on a video recorder " "If someone says to me, Christopher, tell me what your mother was like', I can Rewind to lots of different scenes and say what she was like in those scenes." (p.76). Christopher is very gifted at mathematics. He gets an A grade in A Level math. Christopher knows all the prime numbers up to 7,057. His ability in math is referred to by the playing cards with the prime numbers, 2, 3, and 7, and the multiplication flash cards. He also knows all the countries in the world and their capitals.
Christopher loves animals, especially his pet rat, Toby.
This love for animals is signified by the toy rat, Toby, the dog bones, and the patch with animals pictured on it. His favorite book is The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle which is pictured in the basket. He also loves science and has a fascination with the Apollo space missions. Christopher really enjoys the computer and did the Expert Version of Minesweeper in 99 seconds. Christopher's favorite color is red. He has a superstition that when he sees four red cars in a row, it made it a "Good Day, and 3 red cars in a row made it a Quite Good Day, and 4 red cars in a row made it a Super Good Day, and 4 yellow cars in a row made it a Black Day "(p.24). This is one of his behavioral problems thats the result of his disability. He hates the colors yellow and brown and will refuse to touch anything yellow or brown. He cannot stand being in big crowds and throws a fit when he is touched. He refuses to eat a meal if different sorts of foods are touching each
other.
His behavioral problems are depicted in the carrots and peas touching, the red car, the "Do not touch" sign, and the picture of the big crowd. His likes are represented by the science museum patch, the computer picture, and the red coloring at the bottom of the basket. The plot of the book is seen with the boy with the magnifying glass which represents him looking for his Wellington's killer. When Christopher finds out that his own father killed Wellington and that he lied about his mother dying, he runs away to go live with his mother. This scene of the story is portrayed by the bandana on a stick.
When making this project I hoped to convey the unique personality of Christopher Boone using 3D, interactive objects. My project shows all the components that make up his personality and his life. Throughout the book, Mark Haddon
